OK ladies a learning opportunity is staring you in the face! If you have school age children and your bank takes rolled coin let the kids do it with supervision of course! Kids love to count money and really the pennies are best for the younger ones. My dad used to save his money for years and then I would get to count it and get a percentage. He saved a lot!
Dh always saves his coin and rolls it. Both of our banks give out the wrappers for free. The girls save their coin too and when they get enough they will count it and roll it and they know daddy will buy it.
Just a thought

I ask the bank for wrappers as well and wrap them myself. I have a coin sorter that was not too expensive here at home, because we always seemed to have a lot of coin. Besides, it is a learning thing for kids! Child labor.

I just did this last week at our bank. I gave the teller my little baggie of $, and she put it through the machine and handed me $11.32 or something like that. I will never go to Coinstar again (unless I need groceries Fast and have no $, then it's great to get the $ and go grocery shopping).

I have done Coinstar a few times and it is really convenient. I tend to not cash mine in until I have over $50. I have a little jar that has a counter on it so I know approximately how much I will be getting back. I don't like to take the time to roll it, call me lazy!

I cash the change at my bank. Just the loose change in the jar. I take it in and they dump it in the machine and give me the money or I can deposit, No charge either way. I think it's just as easy as coinstar, cuz I have to go to the bank to deposit every week anyway.

Scholastic sells a coin-sorting bank. I found one for ds in one of those flyers the school sends home. It's great. It comes w/wrappers. You put the coin in and in it funnels into the right tube. Then you can remove the tubes to put into the wrappers. It was great learning for him.

If you've got a lot of coins, Coinstar might be worth it for the time savings, but it would have to be a lot of coins for me. We get free wrappers from the bank, and I roll a few rolls while watching tv. As long as I don't wait too long and let the change build up, it doesn't take that long. As soon as DS is old enough, he can help out - it's a good way to practice counting and things like ten pennies equal a dime.

I never use coinstar because the machine "takes" a percentange of the money you put in.
