We've been trying SO HARD to get my husbands car to last until mine is done being paid off (I have about a year and a half left to pay) but his car WILL NOT pass emissions testing (which is a HUGE rip off anyway) and to fix it will cost more than the car is worth!

If we get him a "new" used car with the lowest payment we can find -
do you know if I can get my car loan rolled in? There is only 5,000 left on my car.

Anyother ideas? Different kinds of loans maybe so we can group them together to get the payment down as low as possible?

You could look into where you got your car at some times if you get another car before another is paid off they combine the payments .Wish you luck hope you find youor husband something soon that is in your budget.

Check with your vehicle emissions testing agency. Usually there is a dollar limit as to how much you have to spend to fix the vehicle IF you didn't do anything to make it fail (remove the smog equipment, etc). Sometimes you can get a hardship waiver, too.

And keep in mind, fixing a car - even if it is more than the car is worth - may still be cheaper than replacing the car.

This exact thing happened to my dh and I about a month ago. His car was paid off, but the engine died and it was going to cost too much to fix. I also had $5000 left to pay on my car. We did end up combining our loans and the payment was only $60 more a month than what we were paying for my car alone. It was a nice surprise as we thought we were going to have two car payments that we couldn't afford. Good luck and I hope this helped.
