Do you pay for the Warranty on household items such as Fridge, Stove, Microwave, TV, DVD player, or Camera???
I never do, but it always seems that when I purchase these things I'm always asked to buy the store's or company's warranty. The way my luck runs I figure the thing would break the day the warranty ran out, so why pay the extra money.
Has buying the warranty ever saved anybody any money??? And also what items were they, and would you buy the warranty again??
TIA

Consumer Reports led me wrong. They are strong on not buying them, yet never mentioned TVs are different. So we didn't (yes, we did a lot of research). Three months after the warranty was up, our $1800 TV started bowing. Wish we'd bought the warranty. We did on a vehicle once and found the dealer had lied to us. Waste of $$.
Don't usually buy them, but right now, my out of warranty GE top of the line fridge has a broken icemaker and the freezer may be intermittent. We've already spent over $400 in repairs on it in the past. Latest quote for icemaker alone would be over $350. Had the guy out doing warranty work on our dishwasher and microwave, and he is quoting $115 for a one year contract on the fridge, which would cover these repairs, so, unless I can find a reason not to, I will probably do this.
Otherwise, it's usually no, unless I can find a reason I should.
TVs today, which CR NOW agrees, should get one.

we don't for two reasons. 1) all consumer experts say they are a waste of money.2) my dh can fix anything so I don't need someone else to fix it.
forgot 3) both dh and myself are too cheap to buy it ever.

We did with our HP printer/scanner and already we have gotten our money back. After 3 months our printer stopped scanning, because of warranty they replaced it free of charge. Normally though we don't get the warranty, but printers are so finicky I'm glad we did.

One time I bought a microwave on sale at sears for under $40. They asked me if I wanted the $50 warrenty for it. I had to laugh at them and ask why I would spend $50 for a warrenty when the microwave only cost $40.
No we never do for products. My dh bought the extended one for his car, I don't think he should have since we will sell it in a few years anyway but we'll see.

I dont, we have a TV that is 7yrs old now and running fine. most stuff it is cheaper to replace then pay each year for a warranty. and the warranty is so tough to work through they have fine print and it excludes nearly everything. I have a TV that DS threw coins into the back and the DVD drive and they wouldnt cover it since it was not malfunction.
I do have a home warranty on appliances when we puchased the house, it came with the warranty and the oven stopped working, they charged $50 to come out and fix it, if they couldnt fix it they have to replace it. this warranty covered all electrical appliances that came with the house.

I never have and so far no regrets. Some of the warrantys require you to take the item in for a yearly overhaul.

i never do most financial experts say it is a waste of money and like best buy and those places if you read them alot of the major things are not covered... heck our first tv lasted 9 years and we have had our 2nd one for 5 years now and no problems we just try to by quality items when it comes to these major purchases.. most times by the time we need to replace the extended warranty would have been up anyway..
