You guys keep it cold!! We keep it at 67 during the day but half the time I'm bumping it up to 68. I hate being cold, I feel life is too short! At night it's set to 63. Our last bill (I just paid it yesterday) was $322!! That said, we have a 3400 sq. ft. house, we keep one guest room closed up though.

OMG!!!! I'd die!! We keep ours set on 72 degrees and I'm still often cold. Maybe that's why our last heating bill was almost $400?!?

Well, our bill, with keeping it that low and using the fireplace and space heaters, was almost $400, too.

Now, now. You should know better than that. My frowny face was definitely at the bill. Never at you, m'friend.

Soooooooo, when should I expect to see your smiling face at my house?

We keep our thermostat at 68 all the time (in the winter) We found that running an electric fireplace space heater in our basement really warms up the rest of the house and our heating bill actually went down. We also ran one in our kitchen when it was so blasted cold there for awhile (below zero) Our kitchen has no radiators.

Are you all not concerned about fires with the space heaters? We could really use some in our bedroom, it's freezing compared to the rest of the house.

We got electric space heaters that have an automatic shut off if it is tipped or anything. No worries about fires like with the old kind.

We're on the year around budget plan too. I find it really helps even things out with the budget.

We keep ours at 59F between 10pm - 6:00am
and 66F the rest of the day (I am at home during the day).

We kept it warmer when we had babies in the house but now that we can keep under the down comforters, we like it cooler at night.

We don't have any space heaters or fireplaces.

We have a summer cottage in Canada that had a woodstove that we never used and did not want our baby getting hurt on so before he was born we took it out of the cottage. We do still get cold at night there sometimes so we bought these things called econoheaters. They hang on the wall, have no running parts, and use VERY little electricity. They work SO well that we bought one for home for Bryce's room. He will not keep blankets on and this way we can set his room warmer and still have the thermostat programmed to go down at night. We have the econoheaters plugged into thermostats as well. This might be a good solution for heating the 1 or 2 rooms that you are in most often so that you could keep your thermostat down. Check out www.econheater.com. They use convection and natural airflow to heat the room and are safe for kids and pets. We originally saw them in the back of popular science magazine.
