We also are on the budget plan (same amt all year long) and have a programmable thermostat. I do have it change depending on the day. If I know I'm going out for the day, I can just lower the temp with a push of a button and have it hold that low temp for me until I come back. It's great, it was the first thing I had my Dh install in our new house! I have to have my programmable thermostat!

We keep our house at 66 and at night it goes down to 50. We don't use any sort of space heaters, we haven't found the need for those...we're pretty comfortable in the house, if anyone is chilly, they just put on a sweater.

I don't like being hot...and when I'm doing housework and such, even 66 gets to be too warm for me and I turn it down. I also can't sleep at night when it's warm, I need the temp to go down at night to sleep comfortably.

I don't do the budget plan because it is only 4 months of the year that it is between $200 and $400, but the rest of the year it is $50 or less. I really take advantage of those months with such small payments.

We do the budget plan year round. It is one price for our electric and gas. It helps out a lot with the budgeting since we live in a drafty 110 year old home. It also helps out if we have a very cold winter or a very hot summer. We keep our furnace at 67 during the winter and turn it off during the summer unless we are going to have a cold night. We turn the air on when necessary since our double layer brick house likes to radiate heat on a really hot day and we keep most windows closed for the safety of our kid and pets.

We pay about $220 a month for heating oil. This is just November-March, but still it's high. We keep the house at 65 usually, but it does not feel that warm I swear! I think if I worked, and the kids were in daycare (the house was empty) we would save a lot because I would set it really low...

I was shocked at our heating bill this month too, it DOUBLED...my MIL (who lives with us) would kill me if I had the heat on lower than 73...she starts to complain even then...she's always cold!! Even though I'm home during the day - I'd keep it lower and just put on a sweater or heavy sweatshirt...it doesn't bother me...but she drives me nuts when she's cold. She'll walk around the house bundled up as if it was 0* in the house...she's literally had on a scarf and mittens and a heavy jacket at times...in the house...and I only had the heat on 70!!
