Just a generalized question...

A lot of people tend to depend on money they are supposed to get. Kind of like tax refund money, things like that. Well, what if you were guarenteed a large amount of money in say, 6 months. But you had a lot of things you needed to do, or wanted to do at the moment. Things that you would no longer be able to do in 6 months.

Would you/have you ever taken out a loan knowing you would be able to pay it back 100, in just 6 months? Guarenteed?

If there was an emergency I would... to buy new flooring, or redo my bathroom, etc, no, I wouldn't. But to each their own!

I don't count $ coming in as "our money" until it's actually in my hands.. guaranteed or not..

ITA. I would only take out a loan if it was an absolute emergency. Wants can wait until you actually have the money. You never know -- there could be a mistake in some calculations and you may not receive the amount of money you were counting on. Worse still, you may not receive the money at all.

I agree, too!! This is what my husband's friend has done. It actually worked out for him, as he spent the money, and then did recieve the money he was guarenteed, but now hubby is thinking we may do the same thing.

We still might, but now I am really thinking logically instead of thinking, "I really want to build that deck.. I really want to get that pool... "

This is exactly my line of thinking, I'm a big what- if(er) ...you know, what if, it doesn't happen, what if it doesn't come in in time to re-pay, what if it's not as much as we hoped for?

I don't count on it unless it is an absolute guarantee (ie; planning ahead on payments from a paycheck, and even then, I round down the amount of the check....just in case)

I'd wait until I actually had the money before I spend it.

I'm with everyone else. I'm always afraid a bigger need for the money would come up in the meantime (i.e. a medical emergency). Then, what would we do? I guess I'm one of those whoe doesn't "count my chickens before they hatch" types.

we have done that and it back fired on us...and it was a big mistake we learned the hard way so we would never do it again. thats for sure...we ended up with another payment we really did not need....so be very careful if it was an emergency and i had to i might consider but for something not necessary i would not.

I would only do it if it was an emergency. The only time I plan ahead for spending money is if it is coming out of my paycheck so I know I'm getting that money.

The dangerous part of spending ahead is what if an emergency comes up in 6 mos so you have to use that money to cover it? Then you have put yourself in a hole.
