I was reading the other thread of nonfrugal things we do and I was amazed how many people don't eat leftovers. I was wondering how many people don't eat them and why? We eat them and often my DH takes them to work for lunch the next day. Thanks for sharing!

I like to be frugal...and practical...but I do have a bit of a "thing" with leftovers. I don't really like to eat them, but DH does...so I'm not totally wasteful

I think my avoidance of leftovers is a result of my mom so totally over doing leftovers when I was a kid. My mom would also freeze anything and everything and then reheat it -- She often did this with rice -- which to this day I still don't care for (frozen or fresh!!).

We eat leftovers in our house - either for dinner another evening or for lunch that week. Problem is, with just DS and I, when I make a good meal, especially any kind of casserole dish, there is way too much, even for 2 meals. I don't want to eat the same thing more than twice in one week so the rest gets wasted. I do freeze some but not everything is freezable so some still gets wasted. When I plan meals I try to plan the leftovers in - works sometimes and sometimes not.

We eat leftovers...once a week, we have a "eat anything in the fridge only" night. If it is a casserolle like you mentioned, and it is enough for another meal, for whatever reason, I do go ahead and freeze the whole thing. With six kids, we can't afford to just throw away uneaten food!

I don't often have leftovers but if I do, I usually eat them the next day for lunch.

we try to be good with leftovers either eating or freezing them, but I dont always make it. And sometimes I will freeze them and forget about them too
I try to make meals where leftovers dont seem as much like leftovers because they can be used to make other things.
a Rotissierie chicken is perfect for this, I make it one day and we eat it, the next couple days we make meals with it, adding any left over veggies to whatever meals we make, and then the final day I use it to make chicken soup or a broth that can be canned for later use.

We rarely waiste a bit of food. If I'm going to cook, I always cook big so that I have leftovers for lunch or to turn into something else for another meal. I used to buy lunch meat for lunches (dh comes home everyday for lunch) it costs a fortune and is really not good for you, so I just started making lunch out of our left overs and save a ton of money.

I actually drink leftover coffee!! My DH thinks it's gross, but if I don't finish the pot I make from the previous day, I just heat it up. It's not as good as fresh, but coffee can be expensive.

I'm also guilty of throwing away leftovers. My DH won't eat them and won't serve them to DDs for lunch either. I usually take left overs for work but smetimes DH meals are so gross noone wants to eat them and I don't know how to fix them (usually the dog won't even eat them) so that stuff gets thrown and other times there's just to much. But what I've been doing is throwing all the left over vegetables in a freezer bag and then when it's full I make vegetable soup and the kids love it. Any the meat goes in a afreezer bag and then I make tacos or enchiladas or something along that line. No ones caught on yet that I've been doing this so there's no complaining.
