This morning I took on the task of minimizing our bills as much as possible in my frugal attempt to be Frugal. I called Bellsouth and inquired about having things changed. I had EVERYTHING taken off my bill except for caller ID, long distance (I had it changed to a lower one). We are on dial up, so DSL wasn't an issue. Well, after I changed the
perks" like call waiting, 3way calling and so on the lady literally ARGUED with me that it was a bad idea. She told me I would be spending MORE just having Caller Id. I asked her to explain to me how $9 a month was more than $29.99 a month (I can see she's wrong here, and I have an ALABAMA education). So she finally sees I'm not budging and does what I asked. THEN I call back about my long distance. We had the unlimited LD for $30 a month, but I am the only one that uses it during the day, and at night we use the cell which is FREE. So, I had them drop it to the .05 a minute plan which dropped another $25 a month off my bill (LD service is $4.99 a month). After I hung up I was reviewing my bill and I saw something weird. THEY HAVE BEEN CHARGING ME $20 A MONTH FOR A YEAR FOR INTERNATIONAL LD SERVICE. I was like what in the HECK! So, I called them again and told them to take it off , and that I would be calling back after lunch to talk to the supervisor because I want to know WHY in 9 months I have been paying $20 a month for something I didn't ask for (that's $180 total!!!!!!!!!!!!!). I'm pretty miffed right now, and ready to strangle someone over this. No WONDER my bills s so friggin high all the time.

Well, I just called Bell South back and talked to a really nice rep. I discussed the issue with her and she told me that it isn't $19.99 a month, it's $2.99 a month. Still, I didn't ask for it, therefore I shouldn't have to pay it. So, they credited my account $25.44. I know it's not as much as I was thinking, but that's still $25 that I deserved because I wasn't the one in the wrong. Hard to accept that for once it was a happy ever after...lol

Same experience different company. We wanted to lower our directv plan only to find out that they were charging us for HD and DVR both of which we don't have capabilities to use. It was our installer that screwed up our plan. Don't you just hate it when you find out that they are charging you for things you don't use or need.

Good job getting it done and saving some money!!! I just switched us to a new carrier in efforts to save money on our phone and cable internet. I'm projecting a $40 month savings......that's $480 a year! Yay!!

Before we moved here, I signed up with AT&T long distance, who also can do regular phone service here. I set it all of it up, and then I called the cable company to get cable in the house. Well, the cable company offered a NINETY DOLLAR savings if we signed up for cable/internet/phone all in one through them. So, I did and called AT&T right back. I cancelled the whole thing within a half an hour...all before the move was ever made at all. Well, for a YEAR we had to fight them over the initial sign up fees and first month of billing. I was LIVID. They claimed that I had NOT ever cancelled it and that if I had, one it would show up in their computer, two, I would have been given a confirmation number. Well, that might be, but when you are literally writing notes on the outside of a moving box because all your paper is packed up....you get the point. So, I talked to one person after the other, supervisor's supervisors!! They would not budge, and dh finally said to "chalk it up" and paid them. I just couldn't do that. So, I went into the attic and I pulled out ONE BY ONE each packing box we had saved (and we threw out half of them due to lack of storage space for that many!). About the third box from the BOTTOM of the pile, I finally found the box that I had written on...and sure enough, there was the CANCELLATION confirmation code. I called them back immediately, and the guy I talked to said, "yep, when I key that in, I see right where you did it. Weird that they didn't log it in the regular records, too". Grr...not weird...just BAD business and bad ethics. I will NEVER use AT&T again..no matter what they offer me. They ended up sending me a $90 refund check since dh HAD gone ahead and paid them just to keep it off our credit.
