Wow- I never thought of anything like that when getting gastric bypass!

Maybe you can start doing a little bit of Tai Chi or lite yoga instead of going to the store!

I became a bored SAHM and me and my youngest would go shopping all the time, me and my DH noticed that we would "run out" of money before his paycheck- depressing! So now Itry to only run errands to the store when my youngest is in preschool- or if I have to go somewhere I will go to a local grocery store that has a babysitting service- so I will not be guilted into buying something for her. Of course there are times still when we are out of money when the next payday is coming- but that is usually due to an emergency, DH not being able to work a full work week (like this next pay coming ). In order to combat boredom- I started to exercise, clean my house better and in general keep my mind and body more occupied! Good luck and I HTH!

There is an article in this week's People magazine (with the American Idol contestants on the cover) about this exact subject.

there was also an Oprah episode where the woman became an alcoholic after her bypass. I would choose shopping over alcoholism and drug use, but shopping can be an addiction just like anything else. I would not think that getting addicted to exercise would be any healthier - wouldn't that become anorexia or bullemia eventually? I read an article about weight-loss surgery that said that some physicians are requiring counseling before and after the surgery to help the patient make that step without transferring their addiction...

If you are military, your insurance definately covers counseling - I would look into it. I can't hurt. Good luck!
