DH has a 2005 Ford truck he bought new --drove off the showroom floor-- at the end of the season. It is an extended cab but only like the half doors in back. Well now hes wanting to go today cause he wants one of the new Ford trucks. Says he will have more room in it --we still owe 24,000 on this one! But when we got it it was our first buy and the interest was higher, hes telling me he can get this new 40-45,000 dollar truck for no interest and it be cheaper than the other one?! Does he think I am that stupid? Or am I would it come out better in the long run? He has 3 other riders and needs more leg room he says, and he does put alot of miles on a vehicle for his job. I just hate paying so much for cars. We owe about the same on our suburban too as the 05 Ford. This new truck will cost more than we are paying for our 3 bdrm brick home on 2 1/2 acres!

If my dh ever bought a $45,000 vehicle, he'd better make sure it has all the comforts of home because I'd throw him out of the house!

Fortunately, my dh knows he can't have a vehicle like that. Currently he drives an 11-year-old beat-to-heck Nissan pickup that we will (hopefully) be replacing sometime in the next few years with something reliable and inexpensive.

IMO, I think it's better to have a vehicle paid off before you trade it in. If it's not paid off, I think the finance company tacks on what you owe to the new car loan. In that case, if you still owe $24,000 on this vehicle and he buys another one for about $45,000, you'll owe $69,000!!! That's more that what I owe on my house -- with change left over!

Have you checked out kbb.com?? To figure out how much you could sell his current truck for? Would you be taking a loss on the current truck? Would it be more feasible to look for a couple year old truck that has a bigger cab in the back to accomodate the people he drives around? Do you have any additional funds to put towards the "new" vehicle, or would he be looking for a 0 down kind of thing??

We have a 2001 Ford truck that has the Super Cab thing with lots of room in the back. It is not just the new vehichles that have it.

Haha, DH said something this weekend about buying a 15,000 motorcyle and I LAUUUUGHED!

In our family, I cannot justify buying a motorcyle when there are so many other things we could use our money for. And in general I could not really justify spending that much on a truck, but everyone has their own thing!

My DH says he makes the money and he pays the bill. We are making it fine with the vehicle and house payments but to me its just uncalled for--My suburban was uncalled for I have a used Honda so its got 260,000 miles on it it goes--use it--tole him to drive it to work it hads room and is way cheaper on gas--right now its our loaner car--first ds used it now my sis has had it for 3 months till she could get a vehicle fixed. Hes 25 and does not understand he has always had what he wants when he wants it. He can afford it but I have lived very poor before and he hasn't so I am always looking at what if-- and we might need the money some day.

Uhhhh,,,he makes the money? No, he supports the family. You do too, but in a different way that no true salary can be put upon.

Mommysaver and Daddyspender? Gosh, when I was 25, my big rule was I wouldn't buy a car that cost more than my age was.

Sounds like there is more to this than just wanting a new truck. I would have a big problem if my dh said something like this. A marriage is a partnership. No matter what, our money is OURS to manage - no matter whose paycheck it comes from.
