I see people like this and just assume they have money! I never think they are in debt, just lucky! I sit and pipedream about when I'll get lucky like them.

I don't think it's wrong to have anything you've worked for and enjoy. People look at what I have sometimes and think oh she's got money, but I did have the debt too to go along with it. But I also shop the deals. Yes I have a tanning bed, designer bags and new car and new furniture. But the tanning bed was given to Brian from a customer and it cost me nothing, designer bags, I order from QVC or ebay or the outlets and sell what I have to cover the cost. I also have found too that the best or most expensive is not always the best. Sure I'd love to have another Lexus, but it's the same as a Toyota except with the bells and whistles, but it gets me to point a to b.
I like the nicer clothers, Ann Taylor Loft, Children's Place, but I shop major sales, so I can justify what I buy.
I have to say for the first time in my life, I'm happy with what I have. My MIL has diamonds and all kinds of stuff, but she's not happy. They buy new cars ever 2-3 years yet complain they have no money. I get my moments when I would go how do they do it, and yes I've posted on here, but life's too short and I enjoy what I have. My goal someday is to get alittle place at the beach, that's my dream. I just love the beach not for anyone else, for me!!!

Sure, but I also know that many of them have salaries to support their lifestyle. I also don't think that means they have an empty life. Many of the these people seem very happy to me.
And no, I don't think it's wrong to buy it if you can afford it. If you've worked hard, put yourself through college (or whatever), made good life choices about spending and investing money, then I think people have every right to spend their money as they see fit. JMO

I am in the same situation. We make less money than alot of our friends but we seem to be better off financially than any of them. Everything we owned we got at a great deal, we work hard to stay out of debt and do without when we cannot attain it and still live within our means.

I do not automatically assume people are in debt when I see "toys"; (unless like the Hummer that someone has down the street - now I think *they* might be in debt but hey you never know! LOL )
I don't know how on earth it would be considered 'wrong' for someone to have even something I would consider very inappropriate unless it was stolen!! In that case, you could take it the other way, with an extremely poor person thinking it was 'wrong' for someone to, for example, own a sweater if the first person couldn't afford it. Regardless of what we say we 'need' someone else in the world would consider even that sweater a luxury.

Another thing I was thinking of is that I like to have 'access' to things much more than actually owning them.
For example, I don't need a boat, I need a friend with a boat!! I'd gladly cough (ok not gladly) up the gasoline for an afternoon if could go boating and not actually have to own the darn thing!

I suppose it depends. How many expensive toys does the person have? Does the person have a job that would be able to pay for those toys? And lastly I think that people have different priorities.
I'll give you an example of the priorities. My parents were never super wealthy, we went through bad times, but we always had money for books and music. I was taken to the opera and classical concerts (completely willingly, I might add). My dad was a hi-fi nut and spent large amounts of his income on his high fidelity equipment. (He never went into debt to do so though. He saved and bought when he could afford it.)
But we also never went on the traditional annual holiday to the coast. We'd drive down to visit my grandparents, but that was it. No family holidays. Cars weren't a big deal either. My mom's had two new cars in the last 25 years. Mom sewed most of my clothing until I was about 11. (She stopped because her arthritis was making sewing painful.)
The house wasn't a magazine worthy house. Furniture was utilitarian and was expected to last as long as the cars and clothing.
So I tend to go on the idea that other people are prioritising differently. I still manage to find money for books but seldom buy new clothing.
