I just bought a 13 pocket coupon file at the dollar store for my coupons..but was wondering how you all sort/organize them? It is wallet size, as I figured if I got it to fit in my purse, I was more likely to KEEP it in my purse...and therefore USE the coupons.

That is the way i did it for the longest time because i was too concious about what others would say if i took a binder in the store. It worked very well for me although i have now gone to the binder method since i have gotten more "serious" about the whole thing. You will change your method time and time again until you find what works for YOU. I started out seperating them by category like grocery, freezer, personal care, etc. Then I went to alphabetical. Ultimately it is what you think will help you find your coupons the quickest and easiest.

I use the dollar store organizer also. I take out my coupons that match my list before I go, that way I'm not tempeted to buy anything that's not on my list.

I buy the plastic kind that you find in the dollar store also. I find this handy for me to use.

I have one of these in my purse too, but yanno...I think I should use Melissas alphabetical idea...I have it broken down into catagories (ie; frozen, beverages, health and beauty) but now i am using more and more coupons, but I'm FORGETTING what's in there and not using it atthe time and kicking myself when I come home and find it
That was a great tip Melissa!

I also have mine sorted by categories. I try to go through them before I get to the store and pull out the ones I know I am going to use so I don't forget to use them.

This is how I do it too.

I've heard others organize by expiration date but I haven't tried it.

Good luck!

I actually use 2 of the dollar store ones. I use one for things I know FOR SURE I will be using on my trp to the store. The other holds all the rest so that when I get there if I fond that something is on sale ans I have a great coupon for it I have it there. THey are both wallet sized, just different colors. I bought the kind that was already labeled too. THat way I know how to sort them... although, CD cases with the plastic sleeves in it works great too and it's about the same size. HTH

I use two index card boxes. One for food and one non-food and then organize them alphabetically with the little dividers they sell for them
