I have created a free printable grocery list and posted it on my web site, www.godscountrybotanicals.com, and I STILL have a hard time sticking to it! Does anyone have a secret to really sticking to the list (other than only bringing enough money for what's on the list)?

Well, I like looking at the clearance racks at the grocery stores. Like the other day at Meijer they had baby food on clearance and I grabbed a BUNCH of that. They also had big bags of Snyders tortilla chips on sale for 50 cents a bag. I grabbed all of what they had left. They have even let me use coupons on those items!! I also look at the bakery clearance items. Like, I can get good bread there cheap and then save it for making french toast. Because I don't know what will be there I allow myself to go off my list. Altho, I try to remind myself that just b/c it is on the clearance racks doesn't necessarily mean it is a good deal....

I think just willpower. Try not to go hungry. Go shopping alone (I know if dh or the kids go we end up buying a ton of stuff we don't really need) Oh, & make sure you take the list That's a big one for me!

Shopping without the family is a good way for me to stick to my list. I also check cleararnce items but in the long run it does save money!

Great list by the way. I try to stick to the list but I always remember things that we are out of so I pick that up too.

my secret is to send DH. He tends to stray from list less than I do. I just can't walk past an aisle without saying "oh we are almost out of that-better get it now". The only time DH strays from the list is the clearance racks! Can't fault him there. I am lucky he is willing to go for me, so I won't complain!

Yes, my DH doesn't stray much either, but I'm just like you, oneandonly! I see things that I know we'll need (for next weekend's party, an upcoming camping trip, etc). I do notice, however, that I stray less when I have a list. Keep the posts coming ladies.

I write a short list of items i need to make certain recipes I have lined up. Usually when i go to the stores i dont just get stuff on my list, it depends if I see something i need or if an item is on sale.

I tend to stick with my list. The times that I don't are when I have my kids with me or my dh. They always see something that they just HAVE to have, and then the cart starts to get overloaded with junk. If I go by myself, after work, I am in a hurry to get home so I just buy what I need.

Perhaps going when you don't have much time, so you don't have time to look at all of the stuff on every aisle?

I stick to my list what I find helps me is if I write my list according to the store layout ..... then I stick to it better. Also when I go it is my misson to not spend the day there I get in and out...... also WE are broke so I do budget how much I get to spend a month and that helps too.
