Good for you!

what is the difference between using items new with tags that you were planning on taking back and going to those different stores and picking the very same items and putting them together for someone????? NOTHING! You have just saved yourself precious gas money!

I bet they gave a gift to a friend and that friend regifted it back to them! LOL Because unless the recipient regifts to the same person or an acquaintance of that person, how would anyone know?

I'm all for re-gifting! As long as you don't give it back to the person who gave it to you (or their close family/friends) then I see NO difference in buying it at a store or at "home".

I've been doing this for a while with all the excess clothes and toys we get for the girls. I kid you not, MIL buys so much that she forgets what she buys and buys doubles of the same outfit/toy. Rather than trying to return them since she usually buys clearance and online- I've got bins in the guest closet and shop from there when I have a shower to go to. Saves me money and the hassle of returns. ANd I'd pay more for a gift in the store than I'd probably get for the return anyway.

Baby baskets make such good gifts. Your friend will appreciate it!

Fantastic! I love doing that! I certainly don't think it's tacky. Just remember to not regift something to the person who gifted it to you in the first place!

I really love being frugal about gift giving. When you live off of one income and you have kids you have to get creative. So I usually make baskets with like items or colors. For example one time on my sister's birthday I made a basket with a pretty floral print frame, candle and a trinket which was a little girl holding flowers. It all cost around six dollars. She loved it and said I really had a talent when it comes to making baskets. Well I don't know about that I just try to keep the person in mind that I'm giving the basket to. What are they in to? What's their favorite colors? etc. I shop at the dollar stores, yard sales, our local mission which is alot like goodwill but cheaper and I love clearence sales at Wal-Mart and K-Mart. Sometimes at the mission and yard sales I find stuff still in their original boxes and price tags still on them. That's great!!! Yes I have also regifted. Also when I give a gift I tell the person they are free to do what they want to with the gift. I don't care really but I have some family members that get mad if they give a gift to you and you don't use it or they see it at your yard sale. I've even had some to ask for it back without paying.
