Does anyone else watch the market? I think my dad taught me how to do this. He'll call me in the middle of the day and say, "Did you see how much the Dow went up today?" The Dow is doing really well!

I hear some people say that this is a good thing, that the economy is stronger than ever. Others say, it can only go so high so fast and then it's bound to crash.

Anyone else follow the stock market numbers?

I do a little bit. I find it refreshing to have someone else on the board who is interested in investing, not just saving money at the grocery store. Sadly, between DD, working and trying to catch up on chores around the house, I haven't even listened to the radio or seen any TV so I'm out of the loop. How high did the DOW get? I should go look for some on-line reports.

My personal opinion, just from what I see happening, is middle class families are feeling a pinch. Prices are rising all over the place. It isn't just gas and milk. Salaries aren't following. For most of us, the economy is getting worse, not better.

It hit 13,639.48 on Friday! I love stuff about investing. I think you are right. Saving money at the grocery store is only half the fun! The other half is investing the money you've saved.

The best book I've read on investing ~ best as in easy for me to understand and fun to read ~ was You Have More Than You Think

This is the book that got me interested in the subject. Investing went from a boring subject I didn't understand to something I now got excited about. I highly recommend anything in the Motley Fool Series. These brothers (the authors) are seriously funny and good at teaching difficult concepts in an easy to understand way.

Wow! I agree that many people will probably cash out but a lot of people will buy in as well. The more often the DOW goes over the imaginary 10K mark, the more likely it will stay there and that will become the new normal.

I like to listen to news radio so I can keep an ear out for our money minute at 10 and 50 past each hour. The way I see it is that one of the best peices of mail that we get every 3 months is the statement for our investment accounts. Keeping an ear out for whats going on in money can really help me understand why fund either performed well or pourly.

I check on the Dow...almost daily! Some of my retirement (from when I worked for the federal gov't) is invested in stocks, so I try to keep up with what's going on.
