I just finished a blog entry on this. Sometimes it takes a quick peek at our checkbooks/credit card receipts to see what our own spending reveals about ourselves. Do you like what it has to say? Is your spending in line with your priorities and values?

No, right now I'm pretty unhappy with what mine is saying. It shows a lot of purchases and expenses and that's about it. Granted a lot of it is for repairs on the house so eventually they won't really be expenses (we are being reimbursed) but still. I also hate seeing all the eating out. Being preggo has made this a regular thing and I hate it. I am ready to stay home so I don't have that temptation.

No! It's embarassing to me to see all of the coffee expenses in there! I seem to think I have it under control, then I load information from the bank into Quicken and I get really irritated at myself. I once spent around $80.00 in one month last fall on coffee!! Why does that mocha have to be so addicting?

Your checkbook recorder is a great way to track your purchases. I always attempt to give a brief description of what I've bought to help me keep track down the road. It also gives me a chance to make adjustments in our budget.

Do I like what I see? Usually I see that we've eaten out too much. I'm coming to the end of a current recorder and I'm thinking (hoping) that our eating out has decreased a bit. I have worked very hard on us staying at home and eating our meals. This time though I think I'm going to see too many quick trips to the grocery store for milk or something that turns into a $20.00 or $30.00 trip. Those I'm also attempting to weed out of our routin. It is hard though when you forget an ingrediant!

no, it says that I pay bills and dont ever buy myself anything. I havent bought myself anything-clothes, etc for over 9 months.
But I guess the bills are paid and that is all that matters.

For us it's only our creit card statements- we don't use many checks at all (just for yard sales and a second hand store here in town) . Right now we are pretty happy with what it would say about us. My hubby and I just talked about this on the way back home last night. I think our statements would say a lot of good things about our money spending habits...because we have fun- but always use coupons to do it. We get our groceries, but we're staying with in our spending limits, we don't spend money on tons of stuff we don't need (just a few little fun things).

My aunt was complaining to us last week that her statement reminded her that she just spent over $550 at Macy's about a month ago...she was mad because she could not for the life of her remember what she bought (other than three things that would have totaled up to $200 at the most!) My husband and I were just shocked- because we cannot believe that someone would have spent THAT much on cloths and home decor at any store (and on top of it, not remember most of the items that were purchased!!!) ~~ I almost fell off of my chair when we found out how much she was spending! And then, she has the guts to complain to us (5 minutes later) that she doesn't have any money...well, why do you think that is????
