This is a great comparison and really shows why I am quitting my job to stay home with the kids! Right now I have very affordable in house babysitter at $40/day for all 3 of my kids but she has a 4 year old and one that is due in 6 weeks. So we priced out what the centers would be and I was shocked that for all three of my kids during the school year with only one in school would be $108 a day! DUring the summer it jumped to $130 a day! That is absolutely ridiculous! Plus the fact that both my dh and myself drive 40 miles each way and with gas costs and wear and tear I am better off staying home. I am currently trying to get a few kids to watch during the day to supplement our income.
Thanks for the link.....it is a definate reality check!

I pay $90 a week for daycare for Alex. I work a 4 day week and take home just over $2200 a month. I also get medical, dental and a pension plan from work so it is worth it. I get 4 weeks paid vacation a year and right now I have another month just in overtime stored up. I'd rather be home (right now I am studying medical transcription and hopefully will be able to do that from home). I f I keep working we can have our debts paid off much quicker.

One of the few daycare's I'd consider in my area charges $250 a month for AFTER SCHOOL daycare. That's not even all day! Obviously, if I continue to work over the summer, I'd have to pay the all-day rate then.

IF I get a job that pays $10/hr (average around here is $8/hr), then I'd have to work 25+ hours just to pay for daycare. That takes quite a bit out of a 40 hour work week. By the time I could taxes (about 15%, including SS/Medicare) then I'm working 40 hours a week just for the stress of it. No thanks!
