I found this online today.
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/...re-table_N.htm

One kid full time in a daycare centre $14,000 a year were I am ... same as Mass, NH, and DC. With two kids in full time daycare, the second wage earner would have to be making well in excess of $40 K to even just cover the costs of daycare and taxes! How about 3 kids or more?

Has anymore made the decision to be a SAHM or WAHM because of he costs of daycare? Are you surprised at the differences across the country? I am!

That is one of the reasons I will be a SAHM when the baby comes between daycare and the price of gas getting to work (40+ miles one way) I wouldn't be making anything. Its amazing how much childcare can be and how much it varies, but I guess when you think about it prices on everything vary according to the region.

Me! My job had amazing benifits but ok pay but nothing worth missing out on being the one to care for my child. My break down

Take home salery $1500 a month
- Daycare $800 in my area
- commuting cost $200 (50mile round trip)
- Formula cost $100 (staying home made breast feeding easy)

Left with $400 a month working full time with an hour of commuting time DD would need to be in daycare 50hrs a week and I would only make $100 so not worth it. Now if I was to get a part time better paying job Yes I would go back to work. The extra income would then be worth it.

My 2 year old ds is in an in-home daycare by a lady who is licensed with the state. We pay $75 dollars a week. This is cheap-if you put them in a day care center here you are going to pay $85-$90 or more a week! I didn't want to put him in a big day care center. I love the lady that we use. She & her husband are like a 3rd set of grandparents. So what we pay a year in childcare is $3,600.00. But we do child care reimbursement each month & what we do not get reimbursed for we claim on taxes. I noticed that the state of Arkansas was not on there.

Daycare for our family would be $370.00 a week. DH and I work opposite shifts to combat this, and keep the kids out of daycare.

Yes, this is one of the reasons I will not be returning to work after having my second child in July! I've been trying to be a SAHM since the birth of my son 2 years ago, but my DH job situation was not stable enough. He has been through 2 layoffs in the past 2 years; the first was a week after I returned from maternity leave the first time.

I work for the state and have good benefits; pay is okay. However, once we figured out the cost of daycare for a toddler and infant, we realized it would be more than half of my monthly pay. NOT worth it to us! The cost of daycare was the final push my DH needed to consider me being a SAHM. We've been living off his salary only during the past few months and using mine to pay off debt/build up emergency fund. I've been adjusting our budget and cutting costs everywhere.

I'm still a bit scared about giving up the stability and income of my job, but know that we can do it. Its truly what we both want! I'm tired of seeing my son spend so much time with his daycare teachers.

We live on the outskirts of the Atlanta Metro area, and are amazed by the difference in cost for daycare just between neighboring counties. I have friends that pay twice what I do for their same age child attending a daycare in another county (closer to Atlanta).

I will be leaving my job at the end of December and this is how we feel. My daycare costs are not that bad - for now. Once we have more kids it would really be a cost and wouldn't make financial sense for me to work (but I'm leaving now because it doesn't make emotional sense for me to work).

Ember15 mentioned the cost of formula and that is another savings we plan on for the next child. I had to give up breastfeeding when I returned to work because I would not be able to keep up a pumping schedule during the day.

Sometimes I think about how expensive daycare is but when I break down what I pay ($100 a week as a YMCA member) that isn't even enough to pay one person min. wage for 40 hours. Sometimes when you look at it that way it seems like a bargain (especially when you feel safe with the caregivers, like we do).

That is the sole reason I quit working full time. I had 3 little ones and one in school age care. I even worked in a daycare center and got a discount and I literally brought home nothing!! Then they could not figure out why I left (well duh, look at the amount on my checks!) After we moved, I found that the home daycares were sooo much cheaper out in the middle of nowhere!! I found a wonderful daycare provider and worked part time for the next 4 years. I paid about $6000 for full time daycare for one, 1/2 time for another and occasional drop in for the other kids for the year!!!! Now that we have moved again, I am working around everyones schedule in order to avoid daycare cost since they are higher here. It is amazing how much daycare costs vary even across the state of Minnesota!

I am a SAHM b/c of the cost of daycare. What seriously would be the point of us breaking pretty much even and someone else watching my kids when we can do that and me watch my kids. Two kids for daycare up here I would have to make about 40,000 a year for it to pay off. That's close to what my DH makes. Yeah money's tight but it would still be just as tight if I worked full time and sent the kids to daycare. Atleast this way I know how my kids are being cared for.

It is about $75 a day here for one kid and I have two. Imagine that bill.
