I mostly use my debit card, but I have DH carry cash. I try to have him only use debit card for gas, which is only everyother week (he only works 5 miles from home). If he has his debit card he tends to use it too much on silly little things and neglects to let me know (I do the banking in the house).

i don't use cash very often.. I use my debit card quite a bit.. I find the same thing though with using it, I tend to overspend on groceries or gas or whatever thinking there is extra in there.. Where if I had cash, I could only use a certain amount.

I don't carry cash for the same reason, but I do feel silly putting a small amount on my credit card. We don't use debit because we are concerned about theft and someone having easy access to our checking, but we use credit and pay it off monthly. I can keep track easily of my credit purchases, but when I try to find what I did with my cash it seems to have just disappeared.

Its really a catch 22 for me. I never used to carry cash and dh always carried only cash so we've rubbed off on each other some. I will buy more little things, like a donut on the way to work if I have cash. But I spend less on groceries if I take cash for that, so...

I do need to start keeping some cash on hand though because if we run out of something and I have to run to the little corner store I'm going to need cash!

No you are not a lost cause. Our family has done debit card, credit card and checks. Now we just pull the cash out we need for the week and save our checks for bills. It is hard at times but it really helps us to live within our means.

Yes! this is TOTALLY me...I won't put the $1.37 on the debit card when I "need" a pop so I don't stop, but if I have cash I stop EVERYTIME. Do I really need it? Well.....I am thirsty

I know I have to have more self control in this area. I am getting to learn NOT to take it out with me unless I know I am gonna use it. It's just so hard for me to keep it in my purse "just in case". "Just in case" what??? I need that item from the $1.00 store??

For me, cash is just bad...bad bad bad...which is why I stopped with it in the first place!

Yay for using a little cash. Yes we use cash but it is part of our eating out rule.
All frivolus spending is to be done in cash so we hare $40 a week that we use typically it goes to a meal out and coffee but sometimes we are able to save it to use the next week.
For us cash keeps our spending in check

i usually have $50 dollar bill in my wallet for an emergency the one that is in there has been in there for a couple years lol...i don't carry cash to spend on a regular basis because then we just spend it cause its there and already out of our check register....also i get cash back if i use my debit card as a visa(kind of like discover) so i try to use it without using my pin most of the time it adds up to several christmas gifts at the end of the year.

The 2 richest people I know only use cash when they are out. One is my FIL. Even when he goes to Target or to the mall. They may use their debit card for groceries (I don't usually grocery shop with them), but whenever we go out for lunch or dinner at restaurants, they only use cash. I know that with a debit card, it's easy for me to swipe it over and over again without actually realizing how much it is adding up to. Where as with cash, I can physically watch it become less and less. I'm more likely to not spend cash if I have it, than use the debit card. Also, I know that I am not going to overdraw my bank account if I have cash.

We use our Disney rewards card for things like grocery's, gas, etc... but for smaller purchases we have an allowance of $10 a week - it works good for us
