This has me giggling. I always though the envelope system wouldn't work for us, because DH's income fluctuates based on tips.

When we bought our ungodly expensive bed, we discussed it and decided we needed to set aside $50 a week for the $160 a month payment (so we'd overpay and finish early). So I made an envelope for him that said "Bed Payment - $50 a week".

We just decided to buy a pair of recliners that were on sale, so he asked me to make up another envelope for them saying $20 a week. Then he said, while your at it, the rent, car payment, & car insurance never change, might as well make me envelopes for those as well!

I've always thought the envelope system isn't best for us either, but mostly because I don't like having that much cash on hand (either at home or in my purse). I've just recently decided to try it again for groceries & extras so we'll see...

I plan on starting Monday! I'm gonna have my dh take $200 out on the way home from work. When he gets home he gets the kids and I get the money. I will then go get groceries for the week. I've been working on the menu off and on for a couple of days now and I'm going to try to get by on as little as possible because whatever is left over will be split between my dh and myself for spending money for the week! I really have NO clue if this will work, but for the first time in a long time I feel like I have a plan and I'm excited to see how we do!
