I think this may have been asked before, but let's do it again. . .
What do you do to stay motivated financially? That might mean different things for different people. You might be motivated to stay on budget, pay off debt, save up for something special, etc.
For us, my motivation lately has been Disney World!!! Dh and I are going to go there soon after we become debt-free. This week, I haven't felt well, so I've had a lot of time to search the web. I've been researching a lot about Disney World - what rides to go on this time, where to eat, what resort to stay in! It's like a kid dreaming about Christmas!
What do you do to stay motivated?

I have real problems with this. When things are really bad for us and we are in a tight spot financially, we do great. Then when things are better, we spend more!!! Ugh!! We should be saving some or paying down some debt!! I need more motivation!

For me it is the chance to be a SAHM. I plan on leaving work August 31st. We have been working so hard to save some money, and have all cc paid off. Well, the CC are paid- now we are just stashing some money away.
Every morning I have to leave my boys I tell them how many more days I have to work.
Like a big count down.. It is what is keeping me out of the stores and on track.

Thanks so much!!! Dh and I went there last summer for our honeymoon. That's what is going to make our "going back" even more special. It will be our honeymoon for our debt-free marriage!!!!
We will probably be going in 2010, if everything works out according to plan!

Newlywed0610, I'm going to have to say watching your debt ticker has been great motivation for me! I'm just so impressed with what you and your husband have accomplished!
But I have to say, my children are a reason to be on track, money wise. I grew up in a upper middle class environment with a very stable family, while my husband was raised very poor in an unstable environment. We both feel that we need to offer our children what I had and not slip into the catagory of my husband's childhood.
That said, this past seven months we've had a ton of changes in our lives, most of them good! but a lot of change. We bought a house, my husband took a new job, I was laid off from my job and currently I'm not looking to replace my old job, and we just had a new baby! We've dipped into our savings way too much and used our credit cards! And I need to sit down and change that now that things are starting to settle.

My husband, being the CPA that he is, prints out our net worth statement every month or so. It can be a tremendous motivator to keep us headed in the right direction. I also like to have something in mind to save for. Whether it's a vacation, something small or something big, I think saying, "If we save X amount by this date, we'll get to do (fill in the blank)" it can really help.

We are wanting to go to Disneyworld in 2 years so that is keeping us motivated-but I must admit that it is not easy.

I would have to say my biggest motivation is seeing my DH not stressed. Financial issues stress him out. He takes it personally if financial we are not doing well. We were doing so good. Saving a ton for our DisneyWorld vacation in April had a large amount put away for emergencies etc. Well we hit a bump in the road and had to spend some of our emergency money and our Disney money. But, we are still in the black thankfully. Now we just have to work twice as hard to get back where we were. It is hard to see those numbers fall fast for something unexpected. But, I know they will climb again if we work really hard at saving and NOT spending on any extras. Then I know my DH will be stress free again. :happy dance:

I guess my modivation wuld be to get our savings account higher. We had 7 or 8 major expenses in the last two years that just about stripped it. My main concern is making sure that we have enough to pay out tithe at the end of the year, and the property taxes as well as all the new baby expenses like hospital and bills and what not, so that's my main modivation. Secondary one is a trip back home to see my family, and retirement fund.
