I have learned alot of great ideas about saving money on this board. I think that one idea that I think is very helpful and really works, is paying yourself first, no matter what is due. When you pay yourself first at least for me I know that during the month I now have x amount of dollors to spend and am much more careful to not overspend (I don't know what it is something mental I guess). When I would wait till the end of the month to pay myself there never seemed to be anything left over at the end Just wanted to share and see what you guys thought of this.

When I think of Pay myself I think of it more in the terms on investments. The first thing we pay is and should be the money that goes into our retirement acounts. Still the idea of paying money to different accounts seams to work for alot of people. Even for us sticking to our budget have made a difference in the amount we can save.

I think its a great policy. If you wait until the end of the month it always seems that something "important" comes up that money goes towards instead of savings.

I hadn't heard of that but its an interesting idea! We're still in debt right now and until we pay some bills off we can't afford to save anything really. We have a college savings plan for our son but that's about it. I know I could be doing better but I guess I need to educate myself a little more.
