Let me preface this by saying that I have NEVER done this before. But, our baby has multiple medical issues and had four surgeries on June 28. I'm incredibly sleep-deprived because I've been up with him just about round-the-clock sometimes. I'm also working part-time, juggling both kids (almost 4 and 4 months), the house, a MIL who was critically injured in January and have a great deal of residual difficulty, the car just died, etc.

I was writing bills out at the beginning of July and wrote our cable/internet (I have to have high-speed internet for work) bill out for $500 more than was due. I can't believe I did that! We have a cushion in checking that covered most of it. Nothing bounced, thank God, but it still leaves us short for other bills this month. I want to run away!!!!!!!

Any tips for getting back on track about this emotionally? I'm calling cable later today to see if they'll refund us instead of just carrying a credit on our account, but I'm so fried at the moment that I'm a wreck about it all.

Sorry this got so long.

I am sending you a great big hug! Don't beat yourself up about this. You have alot going on right now....you are human and make mistakes. We all have and we all will continue to. That is life. Call the cable company and tell them your situation. MOST companies will refund you the money.

It will get better!

I did this too, but more like $3000! Thankfully we had the money in the bank because we had just sold our house, but like you, I had a lot on my mind medically and with terminally ill family member. To make it worse, the error was that I made a payment on a CC that was closed, but I still had in my bill list on my on-line banking. I clicked on that account instead of the one I was to pay!
They did refund my money, but it was a wake up call for sure. It will work out. Just take baby steps, and one day at a time.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I pray that you're situation works out and that your baby gets better. I would call the cable company and speak to a supervisor. Explain your situation, if the person has even a shred of decency they'll return your money.

When it rains it pours! Take a deep breath and call the cable co for a refund. If they don't give you one make minimum payments on your other bills and hopefully you can catch up next month. ((hugs))

Hopefully the cable company will cooperate. It would be silly of them not to. For one, you could always cancel your service and they would HAVE to refund you the difference!
It willl work out. My dh just this month accidently bill payed ALL of our July bills on July 1st. We had $60 for 11 days. No biggie for some, but we have six kids to feed! It worked out, though, just by being very frugal and very careful! You can do it, too!

Please do not beat yourself up over this. You have an awful lot on your plate right now. I once wrote a check to Discover for $400, never put it in the checkbook and they only excuse I had is because I can be a fruit loop.

Definitely call the cable company and see if they will work with you. If they won't (then they are sucky people! ) just pay the absolute minimum on the absolute essential bills. Hang in there!!!

I'm going to tell you my story! I just recently had a baby, I was laid off from my job, we moved and my husband took a brand new job. A lot of stress was going on in my life (mostly good) and I made a couple of mistakes regarding money here and there. They weren't major but were there and they happened and they messed me up. I decided right and then I could either beat myself up over the mistakes and compound my stress or I could just accept that life was hectic right now and mistakes can and did happen. Which is what I did.

You have a lot going on right now and your baby and family need you the most. To take care of them you need not to beat yourself up over money and just move forward! Not to sound sappy but you need to love yourself a bit right now as well!

That said, call that bill company and explained what happened. I hope they will be understanding. Good luck!

assuming the cable will not give refund. I would look at paying only the critical bills next month and then calling the noncritical bills and ask if u can make half a payment and explain the error. You may incur fees but it is better than not paying and it coming up bad on credit report. There are lots of places that will do this. Medical bills are very good at not charging fees and making arrangments for payments. If u have to don't pay the cc for one month.
