Which is better eBay or Consignement store to get rid of my son's clothes? I kind of like the idea of dropping it off at my local consignment store and going back a few months later and getting a cheque. I just don't know how popular used kids clothes would be on eBay.

I was disappointed with the consignment shop's payback. Go and see what clothes of that type go for in the shop. I am guessing they offer you 10% of what they resell it for.

Well, I would go w/ Craigslist. You should have one in your area. Just check their site to see if you do. I think this would be the better way to go. Its free to list and there are no fees. You just post and wait for someone to answer your add. You can also list the price that you want to get for it. So, I guess if it were me thats the route I would go.

I know there are some postings about Craigslist telling you more about it too.

I have also been disapointed with the return from consignment stores. I typically start with the local weekend consignment sales done by churches and Mom's groups. Once I have done all of those I sort the clothes into yard sale and ebay. I have had good luck with this strategy. You don't make much on yard sale clothes so this is my last resort.

Good Luck.

Thanks everyone. I'll check out Craigslist. I have never heard of it.

I'm actually bored with Ebay. I was doing quite a bit of ebay, but I'm burnt out. I only save the stuff I KNOW will do well, the rest of it goes to a conignment shop.

I do mainly consignment. I get 50% of what they sell it for, which is more than a garage sell and sometimes more than ebay after fees with paypal and ebay. I will sell some on ebay, but I do notice that used clothes do not do as well.

I just phoned our local consignment shop. You get 60% on clothes and 70% on toys which I thought was pretty good. She said you can use the money for credit in the store or they will pay you cash. They only take items from the 1st to the 15th of the month so I've got a few weeks to get items sorted out.

I had a garage sale in May and hardly sold any of my boy's/girl's clothes, then went to the consignment store only for them to tell me that they don't need any girls clothes right now, packed a special box for Once Upon a Child and they didn't take any of those clothes, then tried to sell the best name brand clothes on ebay, and not even one bid! I also put ads on Craigslist, got a couple emails, but nothing went through. I love Craigslist, I use it all the time, it just didn't happen to work out that time.
So I did something else that worked out really well for me there on Craiglist. I went over to the Wanted section and searched girls clothes. I emailed a couple people who were looking for the sizes I had and one person was interested. We talked, she came to my house and I made $30, just like that! We decided that if I get more clothes to sell later on that I would let her know. She has two girls. It was perfect. Now I just have to get rid of all the clothes she didn't buy, lol!

I would highly recommend the consignment. We have a local consignment sale here in Tyler that happens twice per year, you price the item and receive a fairly large % of your sales in comparison to the consignment stores. I have taken things that did not sell at the twice yearly sale and put them at the consignment store afterwards just to get it out of my house! I am not an experienced EBAY person, so I would not be able to input much there. I can tell you if you price your items well, they sell very quickly and I now hardly ever pick up anything at the end of the sale. Hope that helps.
