Calling all you FPU Graduates!

Ok, thanks to ALL the posts on this site talking about Dave Ramsey's books, I read "The Total Money Makeover" at the beginning of the month! Since then I've read "Financial Peace" and have completed Baby Step #1. (yea me!)

I have also talked one of my sisters into reading the book and she's on board now too! My oldest sister's church (where she works) is offering the FPU class and my sisters and I've been trying to talk all my sisters and their dh's into taking the class!

My dh has taken on a side job though and is very busy and not sure he has time to take the class. My BILs also have reasons they may not be able to make the classes!

I'm wondering if my sisters & I should take the class without our dh's? Or should we wait until they can take it with us?

I looked on Dave Ramsey's website and found that they also have an FPU Home Study... has anyone done this? I'm wondering if it's actually Dave teaching the FPU and if it would be just as affective (if not more)?

Any suggestions anyone?? Thanks in advance!

Great questions! I'm new to Dave Ramsey too and I have a few other questions ....

1) Has anyone done / seen / heard about the Financial Peace University for kids. I saw it on their website but didn't know how good it was for / if it was worth it and for what ages it would work best for.

2) I'm a little bit confused about his steps. Should I fully fund the retirement account before paying off the mortgage or try and keep working at both? Right now we have an interest only mortgage (I don't recommend these but it's held by a family member so we won't lose it to the bank). Right now when our income is up (it fluctuates), we take any extra and split it in half, half to mortgage and half to retirement fund (which is no where near fully funded). Not sure what to do ...

Thanks all you DR fans!

If your husbands are not on board and learning the information too, it may be difficult to actually FOLLOW the theories he provides. My SIL is trying to do it this way and she can not really get my brother to cut back like is suggested. SO, I would suggest waiting.

FPU home study would be great! He has a package that includes the DVD's which I would HIGHLY recommend, as some people are more visual learners. The DVD's can hold people's attention longer then just listening to the CD's. It is just fairly expensive to do. Perhaps if you and your sisters want to go in on it together, that would be great, although you would only get one workbook.

Kathryn - I had those same questions about the kids packet too!

Lburgess - congrats - you give me hope!

ctandam - Have you done his home study? Is it DVDs of DAVE teaching the class? And the workbook, do we all need it you think? Or could we get just as much out of the class by watching the videos???

My dh says he's on board, and I'm supposed to just tell him what to do, etc. But because he hasn't read the book he doesn't have the same intensity, or even the same mindset! Where I now re-think purchases - he doesn't. He doesn't buy much anyway, but every little bit helps!

Thanks for the info!
