I have a checking account with 5\3rd Bank. It is basically used for my automatic deposit of $60 every Thursday, which is my child support. I try to check my account to make sure everything I spend is covered and to have a little extra money in case fees pop up. This week I only had 43 cents in it. I had a book on Amazon which didn’t sell and I forgot that they charge $1 fee. This will leave my account overdrawn 57 cents. It is pending but will go through tomorrow. I called the 1-800 number and they said I would have to wait until the fees have been assessed to dispute the fee. Should I dispute it tomorrow when it will go through? I think that $33 for 57 cents is ridiculous and I need this money to help DH with some bills. Or should I take what I will have left and find another bank? Or both? Has anyone had this happen before? I would appreciate your input. Thank you, ladies.

Is this the first time you have been overdrawn with 5/3? If so, I would call your branch and see if they can reverse the fee. If you like this bank, I would keep the acount. But if you want to close it out, you'll need a positive balance. HTH.

I would wait until tomorrow and then go to your branch and talk to them directly...

I would probably talk to the bank in person and see if they can make an exception. I would deposit the .57 cent I owed, and bank elsewhere if they couldn't help me.A thirty dollar fee for a first offense of .57 cents sounds outrageous. Especially when alot of people have a small line of credit on their checking account usually around 500.00 and that keeps them from overdrawing. Some people may not agree with this and that's fine but, this is what I would do personally.

The last time it happened was last month. It was a false charge from Speedway because I used my card at the pump and the next person in lines gas payment of $60 was somehow charged to my account. So, it wasn't my fault. Speedway gave me $60 and the manager wrote me a note so that they would take off the fees, which they were good about doing.
