We're having our first yard sale this Saturday - so today I'm going through an labeling all our stuff - how do I go about pricing? Is there any "system"? or just price cheap to get rid of the stuff. What do you all do?

I bought stickers from dollar general with amounts already printed on them and I just price cheap. I always try to think of what would I pay for this if I were at a garage sale? I never had a system, but baby clothes I always priced cheap. Like 50cents for onsies, $1 for sleepers, etc. It was hard to price all my baby clothes because I loved them all, but I knew that I couldn't over price because I wouldn't pay a high price at a yard sale for baby clothes. I hope this helps.

Ok thanks - that's whay I've been doing - pricing cheap. I just want to get rid of it. I didn't see the stickers with the prices on it - that would have been convienent, but I did get neon circle stickers and just been writing the price

It depends on where you live. If you live in the city things could be a little higher if you live in the country things may have to be priced cheaper. For example I went to a yard sale in the city and she was selling porceline dolls for $6 and they were actually selling were as I had one of the same dolls at my yard sale and it wouldn't sell until I priced it at 1.50. I tend to try and price things reasonable for both me and the buyer. The buyer usually will try to bargain with you anyways if they think it's a bit too high. There's some things you may not want to go lower on. I was trying to sell a keyboard with the stand for $30 people were trying to get me to go lower but I will not considering you can't hardly buy a toy one for that price. My experience with yard sales is that usually clothing will sell anywhere between .10 to $2.00. I only put $2.00 on something if it still has price tags on it or is very nice and wasn't worn that much. I've sold VCR tapes at no more than $3 and DVDs no more than $4. I would price children's books no more than a quarter and other books depending on the condition for $1. Some things you don't think will sell maybe the first things that go. I was going to throw away a few nick nacks because they were chipped but I went ahead and put them out there for .25 and they sold.

I also price things at what I would pay for it if I was yard sail shopping. I made over $500 last year on ys.

I know this is too late for your sale, but maybe it will help someone else.

I have made my own garage sale labels using return address labels on my printer. I make up a document in Word. Each label includes about three prices and I cut them in thirds. What's nice about that is I can also include my initials if I'm doing a group sale, and I can make more or less of the prices I need more of.

Also, I always tell people to ONLY sell in increments of $.25. It makes making change SO much easier if you're only dealing with quarters instead of nickels and dimes too.

I also advise marking to sell. I'd say about 75-90% off the original retail price, depending on the condition and demand of the item (some kids' stuff you can mark higher).
