if the service is poor we do not tip well! if it was ok we give 15 and if its really good I do tip more!!! I guess it all depends on the service and attitude of the server!!

We usually do 15%, but most people up in the sticks of Northern MN (family of ours) can't imagine tipping more than 2 bucks (and that's a GOOD tip in their minds!) I know, 15% is the "right thing to do for proper services" and in big cities or towns that surround big cities, I think that a larger tip is almost expected now days.
We've had some REALLY BAD service lately in the town we live in, and when we do have crummy service, we certainly don't even give 15%. In my and DH's eyes waitresses/waiters have to at least do their job to the best of their abilities to get a 15% tip. If the person is rude or short with us, then what do they expect in return? There are QUITE a few people that want the tip, but don't give a CRAP about their service, because they think that 15% should be a "given" and anything over that is extra for "good service." I don't agree with that thought! I think every penny of a tip is for "good service" and should be earned. Some may not agree with me, because people will say "but these people don't get paid much in the first place"...That's right, with out tips, they don't get much- BUT in most people's minds (I think) 100% of tips need to be earned, not just expected.

We tip 20% for a fully served meal, 10% for a buffet. If the service is bad it's discounted - if the food is bad we complain to the manager - we won't take it out on the server unless it is their fault.

where I stay 10% is normally the given amount. However I always tip according to the service Ive got. If I get bad sevice then they wont get much of a tip, in my opinion you get what you give. Ive had cases where I have even taken the change - as the waiter stood around chatting to friends instead of getting my order and had a horrible attitude.

I waitressed for 15 years, so unless the service is awful I always tip 20% and up.

If the service is adequate, we tip 15% or a little more. Good service receives 20% or more, but poor service receives much less than 15%. If our youngest makes a mess, we do try to make allowances for that. What I don't understand is the reason for tip jars in places where there isn't a server delivering your food/drink to your table. Don't the service people at the tip jar places make at least minimum wage ($5.85/hr.)?

We tip between fifteen and twenty percent for good service. If a waiter or waitress is rude or we get bad service I'm ok with not tipping at all. I was a waitress also, and I know it's difficult sometimes, but I also know that it isn't hard to smile and be friendly.

We always tip at least 20% and always have...

I would tip less if we had really terrible service but fortunately we've never experienced that.

I generally tip around 15%. We have a family of 6 so I don't know if the server sees us coming and all draw straws as to who has to wait on us but the service seems to be getting worse. There are more times that no one gets a refill on drinks let alone anythinge else that we could possibly want. My kids are all getting older now so the mess is definately less and I've been known to stack the dishes for them.

I've considered tipping less but don't want to be one of those people. We'll see I guess

Yep that's another thing... So many people dock the waitress if the food is prepared incorrectly even though it was rang in right. Yes, the waitress should check the food before bringing it out to the table, but so many places use food runners now (which I HATE) that they don't have the opportunity to check the basics of the order being correct.
