For good service in restaurants, salons, etc. I tip 20%.

When we go out with my in-laws we have to slap an additional 10% on the table for the tip, my FIL only tips 10% so on our way out we slap more $ on the table if he has paid for the tip...I remember my parents doing this to Their parents as well. Hmmmmm....

I tip well because my brother is a waiter/bartender so I see how hard it is. (By well, I mean 20%).

The one thing that bugs me, and I should start this as another poll, are those tip jars at places like Subway, pizza carryout places, everywhere! They drive me crazy!

I was a waitress for over a year and know how it feels to get $.50 on a table from a cheapskate - I won't do it. I've never had a waitress/waiter that was that bad to leave such a bad tip. We tip nice - even nicer if the person really pays good attention to us.

I was a server for a LONG time. When I go out we will tip 20% if the service was average, more if better and less if poor. If it was unbelievably bad no tip. Now we are talking about service, not food quality, because that is not in the control of the server. We also take into consideration how busy our server is and all.
I used to get so upset when I was a server and a co worker would get tipped the same as me from a regular customer when they gave poor service. It makes you think. If you are getting the same tip regardless why be extra attentive. The tip is definately up to the server when it comes to us. We do clean up the floor as much as we can when it comes to the baby, she isn't that messy but still, even with more tip.

I usually tip around 20% My mom was very generous and I remember when she taught me to be a good tipper... about 5 minutes later the waitress came running out to the car with my mom's purse! Lesson learned.

We go by the service with 20% being the minimum...It has to be really bad service for us to tip 15% (or under, which to date I have only ever done once)

Oh my goodness... When we were visiting DH's grandmother, she insisted on taking us out to one of the nicer restaurants in the small town... nothing to fancy, along the lines of Red Lobster in niceness but not a chain. She left 50¢ for a tip. We were mortified. I pretended I had left my sunglasses (they were in my purse) and went back and left more money.

We tip 20% if the service is adequate. We will tip more if the service is good. I was a waitress years ago, but even before I have always felt strongly about tipping. I do not blame the waitress for food quality or if something is prepared incorrectly. I try to take into consideration how busy the person is or if the restaurant is short staffed.
