We always tip between 15 and 20% If we think they did a phenominal job and the bill was big in the first place we tend to tip more. I feel that people that work in the service industry deserve bigger tips, this is how they make their living. But only if they really put an effort should they get a decent amount.

funny you posted this right now. I just finished a very profound section of "rich dad, poor dad". He said he finds it very interesting that most people will tip a server or a liability 20% yet will sell their homes by owner to avoid a 6% tip to a realtor who helps with an asset.

Gosh, I have no idea!!! I rarely eat at a place with a waiter (sad, I know!) and hair dressers, I usually give $2 for a cut or $5 if dd has something fancy (like a color) done to her hair. It does not really matter to me what the bill is.

My DH and I were both in the service industry so we are kind of biased.

We tip 20% if the service is acceptable. If we get very good service we will tip more. If we get our favorite servers or outstanding service we have been known to tip as much as 100%...especially around Christmas time.

We're the same, DH works for tips in the pizza business. We once had this great waiter we really liked at O'Charleys, enough that we requested him if he was on. We tipped exceptionally well. One night DH had a delivery to that waiter at home, and got stiffed. It left us bitter.

Our view is that if we can't afford a great tip, we don't go out to eat or order delivery. If we don't want to pay delivery fee & tip, we order carryout. We don't always have service that allows us a great tip (especially in the last couple of years, ugh), but we've always budgeted for it.

It depends on the service. The lowest I will go is 15%. I use to work in the food service industry and I ALWAYS tip.

We go based on the service. If it was BAD service, in a heart beat we will go under the 15%. If it was average service, we do between the two, but if it was realy really good service, we will sometimes do more, too.

Since I am a bartender we tip pretty well, if service is adequate we do 15%. But we'll tip more for great service, or for being extra nice to the kids!

Right now I always tip a little more than 20% because dd makes such a huge mess anywhere we go, I feel that if htey have to clean up after her they deserve a bigger tip (I wish someone was tipping me for cleaning up after her every meal at home) When I am out with my girlfriends I tip 20%. DH and I rarely go out alone, but the other week we went out for our anniversary and the bill was 97, however we had a certificate that covered 96 of it, so we left 25. I figure paying 25 for a wonderful meal was definetely woith it.
