Does anybody have any student loans? If, so did you have them lowered to fit your income?I have an Associates Degree and I almost have my Bachelors but I am going to have my third child in October and don't even want to go to school anymore. Did anybody go to school for a long time to find that you find it tedious and don't even look forward to go to class anymore. I think I picked the wrong degree because (business administration) I don't even want to go anymore. Does anybody have any advice or have you been through the same thing? I don't have a job right now so I really feel unmotivated.

I do have student loans (about $10K worth), but didn't have them adjusted, but did have them consolidated and deferred (a long story, but it was their faults). It also took me 7 years (another long story, all of which was my fault) to get my bachelors' degree in chemical engineering. However, even though it took me soooo long, I wouldn't take it back for anything in this world. Would I re-do some things if I could, as in go back in time and not take so durn long? Of course, but then again, i'm not sure. I have great friends from my class that I wouldn't have had if I'd sped up the process. There's pros and cons. And yes, some days (especially senior year) I didn't even wanna get out of bed to go. But the outcome is great compared to the work. I have an awesome job now, with great pay, close to home, and couldn't ask for better! To me, it's worth it. Now, in some markets, no it might not be "worth" it, but having a degree makes you more qualified for lots of jobs, even in what you went with. Sometimes, while going to school, i wondered if I should have chosen something else (part of the 7 years is a change in major one time already!!), but stuck it out, and wouldn't want my life any other way. So, I say, go for it, don't quit, just get your degree. If you use it, great, if not, oh well, but just in case you ever need it, it'll be there! That's my two cents. Good luck in your decisions!!

Thanks you so much, I really appreciate your story. I am going to take fall off but I am still scheduled for Winter. We will see how I feel about it then. Thanks Again. My theory is to find a job where they will pay for my Bachelor's Degree. I am so afraid of how much I already owe.

It's a good theory, but is it practical? I don't know about business jobs, they might do that, but I know that won't happen in my field. Basically, because you HAVE to have a bachelors degree to do it to begin with. Who knows, but it's worth some looking into for yours! Good luck with that, and I just looked and you are my age, so it's definitely never to late to do it! Take time off if you need it, but stay positive with yourself that you CAN do it! No matter how long it takes!

we have a ton of school loans. dh has an md and I have a phd. his loans were definitely worth it. I worked before the kids and found out that my salary would be daycare and I'd be missing time with the kids while I established myself doing 14 hour days. wtih that in mind, I wished I had chosen another profession rather than lab rat which doesnt pay much with long hours.

That being said, I think back on my education and all the brilliant folks I met and wouldnt trade it for the world. I'd love to go back when the kids are in school FT.

I read once that the only thing that cant be taken away from you is your education. so true.

I also think that everyone has a set level of happiness and it doesnt change dramatically if one wins the lottery or goes bankrupt. We used to lose sleep over the loans but as we pay off each little loan, its just us again. Its all in your outlook.

If the training is not thrilling you, perhaps rethink your major? sounds like a good idea to take a semester off.

oh! yes! we did do graduated payments in the beginning. they are more than willing to work with you to get as much interest and time out of you. try to get fixed rates and lowered payments with autowithdrawal. we have 90% of the loans at 4.5 fixed.

I currently have many student loans, some obtained years ago when I got my nursing degree (associates) and some recently while trying to finish my bachelors degree. So I know what you are feeling. I have started and stopped with my bachelors degree way too many times.....with each pregnancy and all. My advice would be to take time off and go back when you are ready to complete it. It's easy for me to say because nurses typically have no problem finding a job, wether your associates degree trained or bachelors degree trained.

Both me and my dh have student loans. I hate making those 2 payments every month. I finished. Architecture is a 6 year program and it sucked every minute but I love my job now that school is finished. I hate making the check for dh's loan because he didn't finish and doesn't plan to in the near future, if ever. It seems like a waste. If you are close to finishing I would. Many jobs require a bacholers degree even if it isn't in the field you are applying for. Good luck! Oh...I consolidated my loans and 5.875%. His are at a higher rate. I know they can be deferred if you go back to school.
