window film

A while ago someone posted in the freebie forum for samples of a window film you can use to reflect heat from your windows. My ds's room is always about 10-15 degrees hotter in the summer than the rest of the house. So after I got my free samples, dh and I decided it was worth investigating. So far we've done two of the four windows in ds's room, and WHOA- it is already at least 10 degrees cooler in there, plus the whole upstairs is noticeably cooler. We are going to do all the upstairs windows on that side of the house. I can't wait to see what this does to our electric bill. The film is also supposed to help retain heat in the winter.

Where did you get it? Is it a peel and stick thing that you can remove easily if you don't like it?

Could you please post the brand? This sounds like something we could use. We have an old house, and the upstairs is hard to keep cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Thanks!

I am interested..can you post the brand, website, any other info you have. With the bills as high as they are anything to cut costs is GREAT!!!

We ordered it from Home depot and had it shipped right to our house. It is film that comes in sheets and you stick it on the windows. Dh had a learning curve on getting it one easily, but now he has mastered the technique. The sample pack had several different types to look at so you could see how it looked on your window. You can peel it off and it is supposed to last ten years.

Other companies make similar products... you could probably google it and find different price ranges... HTH

Is it like window tint for your car? dh always has our car windows tinted but I just never made the sense to put it in the house too!! THANKS!!

Our Lowe's carries it, too--or used to. My parents put some film on their front door to make it harder to see in. I'm not sure if it's the same as the kind that reflects heat, but I know it was by the same company.
