Where do you see yourself 10 years from now? Describe it in as much detail as you can. (This can be financially but it can also include much more than that.)

What steps are you taking now to be where you want to be in 10 years time?

Example: For me ...

In 10 years, I will be 46. I will have finally lost those 15 extra lbs that have been sitting on my hips and thighs since losing a lot of weight in my early 30's. I'll be eating healthy and going for daily walks. My kids will be 17 & 19 and we will have a strong relationship of mutual trust and responsibility (I'm dreaming here ~right ). I will have paid off half what we owe on the mortgage. I will continue to be be debt free. The kid's education funds will be ready for them to go off to college (the goal is to pay for half while they save for the other half ~ we live in Canada where post secondary is a lot less). I'll be driving a hybrid, eating lots more organic foods (not in the budget at the moment), and will be using solar panels to generate power. My relationship with dh will be strong as we plan for a near future as empty nesters. I will be working part time in a satisfying role, giving myself enough time and balance for getting enough sleep and exercising. I will feel good and strong and healthy.

What am I doing now?
Investing a little every month in the kid's education plan.
Paying off a little every month to the mortgage.
Trying daily to build a strong relationship with my kids with lots of trust.
I walk daily (but not nearly as much as I should to reach my goal).

What I need to work on...
I need to make better food choices ... walk more ... and stop being filled with self doubt.

How about you? Where do you see yourself in 10 years and what steps are you taking to get there?

In ten years, I will be 36 years old. I will (hopefully)have those two or three kids we want, before this time. We will have built our dream home and been living in it for at least 3 years, on our current lot. We will be consumer debt free, and will be hugely invested in our retirement funds/college funds for the kids. We will own at least two rent houses, one of which being our current home, moved to a lot across the street after our dream home is built. We will still be happily married, and will enjoy a yearly vacation with just the two of us, on our anniversary. I will still be working, yet with a much higher salary, as will DH. Our emergency funds will be up to date, and ready if needed, at all times. I honestly could go on and on and on. I'm a big time planner and could calculate our actual savings in total by then, if things go on as planned. Of course, if it doesn't go as planned, at least we will be able to handle it. I'm actually looking forward to these next ten years.
How will we do it?
Well, we currently live off of my salary comfortably. And we will be credit card debt free before the end of this year, so all of DH's salary from 2008 on, will be pure savings, which will be saved for at least 5 years. We plan to break ground on our new home construction in beginning of 2014, and will have a hefty down payment from those savings, hopefully half of the cost, keeping mortgage managable. We are doing a new financial needs analysis at the beginning of 2008, after the debt is paid off, and will be upping our contributions to my IRA account. I will also up my 401K to 8% in the coming months. We will open a college fund for the kids when they are born, and sock away enough to pay for it in full for however many we have. Where we live, in Texas, this type of thing is totally possible, with our cost of living being verrrrry low here.
I love thinking about the future.

Well in 10 years I will be 53. My kids will be 31, 24, 19, 18, 17, and 14!!! My dh and I will hopefully be enjoying some peace (finally). I would like to be pretty much debt free except our mortgage. But I doubt it since college costs will be really big.

I hope I will be working at a job that I like that I have been at for quite awhile (which I have to find)

In all reality, though, we will probably be ploding along like we have for the past 23 years barely scraping by.

The good part is that dh and I are more committed to saving money than we ever have been.
