That's the title of the article:
Your House Is Worth Less? Good - TIME

I thought it was interesting because it points out that for younger couples who are not in downsizing mode just yet; the drop in housing prices is actually a good thing.

Is it really good? It was an interesting article but I just see the rising prices as being a good thing for many reason.
There are some issues with having higher house values. It means higher taxes and that means more money for fixing up the community. My community has seen huge improvements in the last couple years.
Higher prices mean more established first time buyers. So as I see it higher prices are decreasing the crime in our neighborhoods.
I also see that if the morgage payment is higher then the value that you could rent the house out for you have more owners as neighbors. I for one like owners for neighbors because the renters don't even bother to mow the lawn.
Yes higher price do benifit the down sizers but it also helps if you inherit from a down sizer
