Ok, not all of them, but some! He just turned 4 a month or so ago and he shares a room with his 2 year old brother. Some of thier toys are out in our "playroom"/formal living room, but most of their toys are in the closet. They just had their birthdays (a week apart) so their closet is OVERFLOWING!

Well, I'm having a garage sale at my sister's house next weekend and was somewhat glancing thru their closet. My 4 year old said he didn't want to sell anything! I explained we needed to make room for Christmas gifts, etc. A few minutes later something clicked and he started pulling out toys he doesn't play with very often! Some pretty big ones that I would have never expected him to part with! He did pretty good too, actually pulling out ones that he really doesn't play with. Most of the ones that I'd cosidered selling anyway, but wasn't going to -- but now that he's willing... heck yeah!

He says he wants to sell some toys to buy himself AND his younger brother each a harmonica! He got one last year from Santa but lost it! I actually already have 2 put away for this year. Guess he'll be getting them easy!

Do you're kids WILLINGLY give up toys?? My sister had thought about letting her 6,5 & 3 1/2 year old girls help her go thru their stuff but had decided against it since she didn't think they'd give anything up! After this morning's purging episode, I told her she needs to try it! I'm considering pulling our extra toys out of the attic and having my ds go thru them too!

My dd will actually do this willingly on occasion. I always tell her, "You don't have to get rid of anything. If you want to, that's fine, but if you still want to keep it, then keep it." She will go through her things when she knows we are having a yard sale, or when I am ebaying a bunch of her old clothes.

Occasionally, she will hear of a child in need and want to give them something. Last year, on Halloween, a family was out trick-or-treating, and their home burnt to the ground while they were out. My daughter found out they had a four year old son who loved dinosaurs, so she put several of her toy dinosaurs in a box and told me that she wanted to give them to him. So we found out who the family was, and we took the dinosaurs to him!

She has always been very giving, I just have to be careful what she tries to give away! A few weeks ago, one of the neighbor girls was outside playing with her, and the other girl got cold, so my daughter "gave" her good denim jacket to the girl to wear! The next day, when we were getting ready for school, it was nowhere to be found, and I asked her where it was. "Oh, I gave it to Sophie yesterday because she was cold!" Needless to say, after school I made her go (politely) ask for her jacket back!
