If you're not saving enough (or at least 15% of your take home pay, for the purpose of this exercise) what stands in your way? What issues are preventing you from saving what you should?

Not making enough money to have anything left over. Having just enough to make it until the next month.

We're not saving where we should be right now. This past spring we bought a house, my husband took a new job and I was laid off from my job. My husband's new job pays more but it doesn't cover the salary that I lost, not yet anyway. We ended up going through our savings, mostly with car problems and we used our credit cards a bit as well. Our son was born and my husband had a few medical issues as well - we have insurance but even with the insurance there are still a few bills left to be paid.

I just started saving a bit of his check - not the normal 10% that I automatically save normally but money did go into that account this week and should continue to do so until then. I'm also in the process of getting my unemployment. With that and my husband's salary I need to get all of these extra bills taken care of. I will continue adding to our savings, though again, probably not as much as I should but I need to get rid of some of these bills! Once the bills have been reduced I will continue with adding more to our savings.

Cars. Surprise repairs, gas, maintenance. Oh, and property insurance for us in Florida. While ours went down $300 from last year, at $1850 a year, it can be sort of expensive.

At least that is my opinion this week. We just paid our premium last week and had a surprise car repair that was a bit pricey.

children or should I say, right now, we save up to buy big purchases (to us) like ds's new toddler bed, and we are now saving for his xmas present and a child size recliner chair. We also are trying to pay off our debt, and save up for a new couch for our lounge along with a new entertainment center (both will be used) and a new twin size better quality matress for my FIL's bed.

Normally, we are able to save about 30% comfortably, which makes it super depressing on the months we don't save anything. The last two months we moved and bought a lot of new furniture and haven't added a dime to our savings. I have been feeling sick to my stomach because of all the extra big purchases we've made--not because we can't afford them but because we don't need them and could have put the money into our savings.

My husband is active duty air force and frankly the government doesn't pay enough to have money leftover to save any! Unless you want to live in a dump and eat beans everyday! Sure we get medical but I'd like to have some $ leftover to save.

Bills, medical expenses, including sicknesses, Dr. office visits, otc meds and rx meds, plus past med. expenses, house maintenance and car expenses. School, children's needs, clothing, groceries....gosh, I hear big vacuum sucking sounds!!

To much debt to be paid right now! We do good to pay all of our living expenses and bills, so there isn't anything left over to save.
