If you had to slash your budget to come up with a few extra hundred a month, could you do it? Or, if you couldn't cut corners to find the extra $$, could you sell something or earn the money somehow? What would you do?

Since we are here in Germany I could do it. Cancel our internet/phone bill thats $180 a month. Use the library free of charge.

We have and I could do it again.

When we adopted DD, she stopped receiving money from the state for her support - $309 a month.

We could ~ drop DirecTv (which would BITE HUGE since here in the country we get NOTHING!), our internet and cell phones (well one of them, DH drives 80+ miles one way to work and I wouldn't give his up ~ but we could go to a cheaper plan). I'd be lonely and isolated but we could do it.

Another option for us would be to drop the stock options DH get's through work. Right now that's a couple hundred a paycheck ~ however that would be our LAST option since that is what we have as a retirement savings.

We've always been able to come up with a little extra here and there. It might involve working another job even just a day or two - my husband and I sorted trees one day for a treefarm or he's involved with a couple of boards and programs that he received a small pay, or testing kids at the elementary schools or even being a subsutitue teacher, something we've both done. Selling something. Ebay was always a help there - though now I am questioning that.

I am in the process of cutting down on soda...it will save about $100 a month. And we may be giving up one of our cell phones, which would save about $20. Cable and internet...eh....we'd have to be really in dire straits for that, lol.

We could go down to basic cable. That would save us around $40 a month. We have already gotten rid of our cell phones-I only have a Trac phone now. That is about all we could cut out.

The only way for us to gain a few HUNDRED extra is to take on a PT job or have Dh work extra OT... Slashing the food bill could give us maybe an extra 50...I have that pretty much as low as it can go, and we pay next to nothing for our phone/internet/cable/ and cell b/c DH works for the cable co, so we get it at a very discounted price. We could cut back on 401k contributions, but I think that could hurt us (later down the line) more than help us.

We can't give up cell phones because dd has diabetes. Could get a more standard cable plan. I am also thinking about using the wood burning stove to save on the heating bill. Has anyone done that and does it work?

I would probably start by cutting out carry out food and eating out. Eating all meals at home or dh preparing his lunch could probably save us that much. But if we needed more, one of us would try to get a part time job in a heartbeat. I'd prefer that to living in debt.
