I am working on a household "control journal". The plan is to give my parents a copy of the financial portions to keep for me, just in case we end up with a major disaster where the house is unrecoverable. I will also put a copy in my file cabinet for dh in case something happens to me. Since I had no idea what to put in it so I followed some of the information on flylady's website (do a websearch for flylady and you can find it)

DH has no clue at all! He occasionally asks what if anything we owe on the only credit card we use, and sometimes he will ask what is in the checking and savings accts. Only if he wants to buy something expensive does he even question. Everything is on the pc and all the passwords are the same one that he knows, so he can access anything at any time . He does not even know about what insurance policies we have, except that we have something with *** insurance. His attitude is, he hated doing bills before we got married (even though he is very good with money) and he could not wait to hand everything over to me.

My dh has an idea who we owe, but I don't think he knows how much (debtwise). Its not that I hide it, I think he just doesn't want to know. Ignorance is bliss. We don't have a lot of cc debt or anything, but it takes some juggling sometimes to get everything paid. I pay a lot of bills online and only get a couple statements in the mail every month so that would get kinda hairy.

i give my husband my checks to deposit in his bank acct, so he knows where all the money is. i do this willingly, because i had a bank account of my own and was always swimming in overdraft fees and the like. he's great at money, though. i know where our money goes, because every time he purchases something, he tells me. and if it's going to be a major purchase, he asks first.

i'm the same... my "control journal" isn't exactly what flylady says to do... but i worked with hers for about a month then i adapted to what fit me.. but as for the DH... he has no clue.. ignorance is bliss... i wish he would care, but he doesn't so i deal with all of it.

DH has an idea of the bills we pay and what debt we have, etc, but he NEVER actually writes checks, etc. If something happened to me I think he could figure it out (as long as he found my spreadsheet I use to keep track of our bank account balance and what bills I have paid, etc.

I have been thinking I need to list our out credit cards and passwords, etc and stick them in our fire-resistant safe. I really need to get all of this written down and maybe keep a copy at my parents house too!

I've heard of the fly lady's control journal and have wondered what it includes but I haven't found it on her site yet. I haven't looked too hard, but I guess I should get it done!!

I do all the bills and what not here, I don't even know if DH knows where I store the checkbook, snce we don't carry it, ever He asks sometimes how much we have, and I tell him, it just works out best with me taking care of the money that he makes, less work for him, and we don't have to worry about stuff getting paid on time since I'm the more money organized of us two.

On the left hand side of her site she has a list that starts with "home" part way down that list is "control journal" click on that and you can read how to start your own. The "steps" that I have made sure are in dh's control journal are:

14-16, 18 & 19

I also like page # 36 in the "Home Maintenance Control Journal" (search for it in the search box on her site)

Thank you BabeInTheMoon! I actually got on last night and looked some more and found the Control Journal, but didn't take time to look at any of the steps! I just looked at the ones you suggested and will FOR SURE be adding those to my Control Journal!

Now I just need to get it going! (maybe when the boys are down for a nap!)
