If I died tomorrow my husband would be completely lost! Outside of losing his wife and mother to his children, of course. But money wise he hasn't a clue, what we have, what we owe. I've attempted to educated him but it goes in one ear and right out the other.
Does anyone else have this problem? I've thought about starting a file for him ... not that I plan on dying anytime soon. Any suggestions?

At the moment, I don't have that problem. There isn't any exta money to worry about. He knows about how much the bills are. The problem I have is that I have a lot of online accounts, that he does know my passwords. I am going to have to make up a book of my passwords.
The only suggestion I can think of, is the control journal that flylady talks about. You have all your info in one book. In case of an emercency, such as a fire, it is the only thing you will need to grab.
It will have all your bank info, addresses, clothing sizes, your routines for the day, EVERYTHING. I think it would be helpful for if you died too.
Anyone else make one of these? I have started a couple of times, but never finished it.

I know a lot of women who are like this - don't know anything about the family finances. Some of them don't care. My sister-in-law turned a blind eye to her husband's spending. Now they are getting divorced and are in serious debt. It's very dangerous not to know what's going on.
As for myself, my husband and I are both involved in his finances.

Hopefully he'd be bright enough to call my brother, the attorney. I do have things filed in my office at home - all our bank accounts, my credit union account, CDs, investments, 401K, his Roth IRA, etc. But he wouldn't have a clue.

My DH knows where everything is and checks on things (like 401K and IRA changes) often. He knows more of that stuff than I do. As for the checkbook itself he doesn't know what goes out much but will ask me what our balance is from time to time. If something happened to me I'm sure he'd do fine (financially anyway).

I try to keep my DH informed. We do have an excel spreadsheet with our usual monthly bills listed and our bank rec is on it. I do have a list of online passwords that he knows the location.

You are not alone! My DH doesn't even know where the bank is....seriously! I've had my banking there for years, so he just started handing me his check (years ago, of course). He has no clue. he tried to write out a check one time, a long time ago..that was a fiasco. He asks questiuons once in a while, but that's it...kinda scares me sometimes.

Well, my dh USED to be this way - until I was admitted to the hospital for emergency surgery that turned out to be more serious. My dh was honestly afraid I was going to die so the night after my surgery, how does he show his frustration? To chastise me about not telling him what bills are due, when they are due, where all the information is, etc.
I know he was stressed, but I really didn't need to hear it at that time. AND, I had tried many, many times to tell him where everything was, when the bills were due (we don't have debt, but still have to pay the bills! lol), etc.
Since then, he has been more hands on, which has helped a ton. He just didn't care before because, well, I am good at financial planning, etc. so he just let me deal with it. Now he knows where everything is.

My dh has no idea!
He's NEVER sent out a bill - he's good at taking them to the mail drop box though!
