I know this subject has come up here a couple of times and I know it has been a subject near and dear to my heart as well. So I thought I would pass along this article that I found on MSN.com.

Keep your old clunker or buy a new car? - MSN Money

I would love to upgrade to a minivan! But this article helped me keep my wants and needs in prospective! I only have a family of four...and we are doing ok in our suburu! I estimaye if I bought a new van...it would cost me an additioanl $600 in gas per yera plus a big car payment! So...I really loved the idea of maybe renting accasionally for vacations!

Do you know what I really liked about this article? It wasn't so much that it gave new information. It didn't. But it was a really nice reminder of why holding off and driving that old crappy car (which is what I'm in right now!) is a good thing. And sometimes you need that reminder.

When I was in my twenties I went through cars like underwear but now I'm smarter! The newest vehicle we have is a 1999. I'm proud to drive my 'older' vehicle..

Thanks for posting. It makes me feel a little better about our cars. My husband drives a 97 pontiac sunfire, that of course we all can't fit in but he drives it to work, etc. The POOR car has 120,000 miles on it and it doesn't have air conditioning (ok so the windows still work but), the heater doesn't work but the defrost does (?) only two of the speakers work, the paint is falling off, the tint is bubbling, but other than that it runs like a charm. We have spent 400 this year fixing it (clutch, water pump) and I keep telling my husband he needs something better and that can hold all of us if need be. He keeps telling me no there is really nothing wrong with his baby (he bought her brand new).

Anyway my van was used when we bought it and we are about to pay it off and we were kind of thinking of giving it to him and getting me something new (me because I have the kids with me all of the time). But now I think I will agree with my DH and keep it until we have to do something else.

I know how you feel, my hubby drives an '88 Chevy pickup or a '92 Jeep Wrangler. I feel like he should have something nicer to ride in to work but he says it is a waste of money because it is just a means of transportation.
