thankfully my dh can get overtime. in fact, he's getting a few hours tonight. i don't work full time, so i can't get overtime in the traditional sense, but i do pick up extra shifts when i can.

My DH has quite a lot of opportunity for overtime in his field. It's not demanded, so he can pick and choose when and how much. We decided that his time at home is just as important so he doesn't live at work just to make the extra money.

Although this can bring in sometimes an extra paycheck or more a month, we NEVER allocate it as part of our living expenses and go hogwild to buy bigger and better or buy a bigger house. We, of course, use some for things we would like, but the majority gets saved. It is a blessing at times, especially at Christmas which allows us to pay cash.

My dh gets paid overtime for anything over 8 hours per day. So if he works a 12 hour shift he gets 4 ot hours. I don't really get ot at work. It just isn't there. My boss does let us make up time. This week I had a dentist and dr appt so I missed 3 hours of work. I just went in early to get my 40 hours so I wouldn't us my leave time up.

I am paid hourly, BUT am considered "exempt" which basically means that even though I am paid hourly, they treat me like a salaried employee. I too, can make up hours so that I don't always have to take PTO when I need off. DH doesn't get OT pay since he's self employed.
