Every year we celebrate Thanksgiving twice, once with my family and once with DH. My family generally goes out to eat, and DH's family has a home-cooked meal.
I feel bad because I had to tell my mother that we would have to decline on going out this year, but DH and I feel that it would be a waste of money to spend $50+ for a meal that we wouldn't eat that much. Plus the baby would be too hyper to stay very long. We're going to try to spend time with some of my family another way, but I still feel bad (I'm an only child). Have any of you had something similar happen?

I COMPLETELY undstand. normally we go to my aunts my MIL's and my FIL's but this year because of health problems we canot plus takign 3 kids to each house is so hard. we had to tell everyone no. and you could tell they were let down. but we invited them all to come here and of course they declined. btw im an only child as well. so i can relate. its hard. but it makes it very difficult to enjoy the holidays whenever you have to visit some many places.

This year we are ordering the dinner at Walmart and I don't feel like to cook, just want to spend extra time with my 3 years old son. Plus we probably will set up our Christmas tree and decorate too. I understand with the trips and budgets which are burden for us too.
