Do you have any tips that make it easier to save or pay bills? What do you do to simplify your financial life?

Everything is auto debited! ING Direct also sends echecks.

Occasionally I have to write checks (mostly for school expenses).

We use a flexible spending account for medical expenses.

I use automatic bill pay online, too. I also pay bills the day they arrive, rather than waiting for one specific day of the week. That way, I always know exactly how much $$ I have, and never miss a payment.

After my van is paid off in two months , I'm going to have that amount auto-debited into an online bank's savings account to earn 4.5% interest.

I have spreadsheet that I've planned our income & expenses thru the end of 2009! I have estimated amounts so I'm able to also estimate how much extra we can pay toward debt and when our debt (including our car) is paid off I have estimated how much will be going toward savings each month!

I also have an amoritization shedule in the same excel spread sheet where I keep track of my debts and how much interest each one is accruing! It's an easy way for me to watch my debt snowball in process!

I pay almost all my bills online (with the exception of the lawn company & ds's Mom's Day Out program). I don't do ebills yet, but have been looking into them lately - I'm not sure if I'll like them or not!

I'm in the process of getting rid of a lot of the paid bills that I keep filed away! I'm hoping to simplify the filing system here soon!

Always looking for more ideas though - keep 'em comin'!

Since I don't have a bank account I labeled some envelopes for the things I have to pay for, ie: "water bill", "electricity bill", "food", "entertaintment", ect. When the weekly check comes I take out the money I need for each (do the math and separate the total amount in four or three different "payments") and put it into the corresponding envelope ($40 for "food", $40 for "electricity", $10 for "entertaintment" and such). That way by the end of the month I always have money to pay all the bills and some to go out too!

My dh's check is direct deposited, we receive most (if not all) of our bills electronically, the majority of our bills are automatic withdraw, only write a few checks (for school, Scouts, misc stuff like that).
It is easy to just do a quick click when it is all set up with my bank account which bills to pay and when.

I have worked out my bills into fortnightly amounts so each Wednesday night (payday) I pay the amount off the bills before the banks open the next day. This means that part of my bill is paid for and I can't spend that part of the money.

I get an amount automatically deposited into my ING account so I can't touch that as I don't see it and the rest is for groceries, entertaiment and other expenses.

At the end of each month I make a budget for the next month, using a notebook to write the paydates for that month. Under each date I will write what bill needs to be paid. Every Friday I open my note book and look for the date and pay every things that is listed under that date. I pay most of my bills electronically. I also have a automated deduction coming out of my main bank out going into my ING account every week.
