Not sure if this even exsists, but I am looking for a web site that shows the cost of electricity that it costs to run appliances. Both of my DSs have the terrible habit of leaving lights on, radios whatever and we want to show them how much it costs to run these things. I also am curious if it is cheaper to shut down the computer if I am not going to be on it or just put it on energy saver (logically, I know it is, but how much cheaper?)

Wow, good question. I have read that the dryer is one of the most costly appliances and frugal website people promote hanging laundry outside. I also read a few years ago, that if you are shopping for a new computer, a laptop uses about 10% of the energy that a pc uses.

Try checking your local electric company's website. They once did an energy conservation thing on our home and gave us a packet with that sort of information in it.

Ok, I was being lazy so I went and searched around the web and found a cool site:

It lets you pick your electric service rate by state - ours is .09/khw. So, if my son leaves his light on in his room for 8 hours every day for a month, it will cost $1.30/month - so one 8-hour day is only 4 cents - but I will still deduct .25 from his allowance for teaching purposes:cool: There are some things he doesn't need to know.
But here is a shocker - if I leave my coffee pot on for 4 hours (average) per day, it will cost me $10.10 a month!! That is more than the light! And to answer the computer question - my laptop is way cheaper than a typical computer and leaving it on "sleep" only costs .20 a month.
BTW - playing the playstation for 2 hours only "costs" a penny! I won't let DS know that either!!:D
