Since the year is coming to an end, it is that time of year again. Anybody thought of any financial resolutions they are going to be making?

I was honestly thinking of this yesterday. We've worked reallllly hard this year, to get out of credit card debt (and furniture and home depot, etc...debt) and we've paid all but $850 off. That's just a drop in the bucket to the roughly $30,000 we've paid off this year. We will have the 850 paid off before the turning of the clock on january first of 2008. So, that's a great accomplishment. (if you are asking yourself "why does a 26 and 25 year old have that much debt?" , your answer is one of the following "thought we were selling our house, so sold our couches, then didnt' sell and bought new (our old set was used), we were still paying on our honeymoon to greece, we were paying for a months worth of bills that we had to pay because i was in between jobs in teh middle of a pay period, we spent money to go to boston to see my sister, we bought a new washer/dryer, we bought a generator when the hurricane hit, etc...") most of which we weren't "worried about" but it was a great feeling to get it all paid off. To be credit card debt free was my 2007 new years resolution. That's one I've kept!! (oh yeah, and i lost 20 pounds too, so that worked out...lol)
As far as 2008 goes, our new goal is to pay off our vehicles before 2009. We owe almost $30,000 on both my car and DH's truck. If we could pay off that much this year, we can do it next year! Oh yes, and we will not use a credit card ever again. No more. ANd we own a lot of cards....also, we are hoping to have $10,000 in the bank as savings by 2009 too. I also resolve to stay on track with our spending, as well as saving and investing. I am upping my Roth IRA contribution at the first of the year from $25 a month (ridiculously low) to $200 or more. When we get our raises in 2008, I will up my 401K contribution by a % too. Wow, I have a lot of goals..lol
Thanks for making me think about this....what about you claire?

My biggest goals for 2008 are to get my house in order, and set up some sort of routine to keep the house clean and organized!! I think that once my house is clean and organized, everything else will fall into place; the finances, losing weight, and living a healthier lifestyle for my entire family.

well ours is what ever extra money we get this next year will be going to debt tax return included there are a few minor things that need to be taken care of with our tax return money but once those are fixed the rest is all on bills. we are going to for go new furniture even though ares is really bad we can live with it another year we have lived with it this long. we have to get a shed ours is falling down but i can get a new one for under 200 on sale. we need to fix some plumbing in the bath upstairs(fairly minor) then all the bills will start getting knocked off(we will save a small emergency fund). those are our goals and my personal goal is to loose my weight i'm working on it now but will continue into the new year.

Less debt, Even if its just $50 less, Less Debt.

However, that being said we are trying for something that will bring us more debt (a 2nd child) so if that happens and there are more medical bills then at least our taxes will be lower for 2008

I have a host of improvement areas, but the money ones are to continue debt pay down I started this year. Should everything remain on track I will be debt free this mid summer and have a fully funded emergency fund by end of 2008.

We are going to build up a little bit of savings (we have never had one!) and pay down the credit cards. They got a bit too high for my liking this past year. It was kind of a tough year. It should be doable now that I am working full time and part time. Also, we are counting down the days until September when we have NO MORE daycare bills

1. Reduce my grocery budget, by making home cooked meals and finding good sales and stocking up our pantry when I can.
2. Stop buying things we don't REALLY need. My son has more than enough toys.
3. Organize the home.
4. Have my baby.
5. Loose the baby fat! (Eat well and exercise.)
