Do any grocery stores offer percentage off your purchases if you work there??? I need another per diem job and would consider Walmart/Meijer, etc if I could save money on groceries!!!

I used to work at Target but for some reason I dont think that food was discounted. I could be wrong as at that time they didnt carry nor did I buy a lot of food there.

I considered getting a job at Superwalmart till I found out that you do NOT get a discount on grocery items. All other items in the store are discounted except grocery items.

Interesting question...I wonder that too. The lady up the street from me works at a Major Grocery store here, but today I ran into her at the competitors and asked her is she was "Cheating" she said nope, she's "on a budget too.". So that answer led me to believe either they don't or it isn't significant enough to make a difference.

Our Local Grocery store does- Its 10 % for Full timers ! I worked there as a teen and Never realized how great that really is!!

My MIL works at walmart and she gets nothing on diapers or anything in the grocery Dept.

I would think it would be hard to get a per diem position at a grocery store.

I used to work for a grocery chain and we were given a 5% discount. I remember a member of management telling me that he wished it could be more but "the mark-up in grocery isn't anywhere near what it is in retail" so I would imagine that is the reason for most stores not offering discounts on food.
I do have several friends who work at either a bakery, pizza manufacturer, canned vegetable/soup manufacturer and they get tons of discounts and free foods. I'm not sure if there are many part-time jobs available in these types of facilities (and how much frozen pizza can one family really eat lol) but that may be an option for you.

I have heard that some grocery stores if you work there you get a charge account. I do not remember what stores or what the max. amount is. That wouldnt be too bad of a deal. It would come in handy JUST for extreme emergancies. I would be kind to use it only like up to $20 and than if that store offers it, cash your paycheck there and pay it off the same day you get paid.
