Yep. I always ask. I had a late fee removed from a credit card one time. I routinely call the phone co., cell phone provider, cable company, etc. to see what better deals they can offer me.

And like you said, the worst they can say is no!

OK, UPDATE!!!

My sister had 2 medical bills that equaled $1400! They seemed to be for 2 different people doing the same thing during her hubby's back surgery! Her hubby called them hoping for them to drop one bill (at best) or drop the bill to around $1000 (at worst). He was asking the lady the reason for the 2 bills - she put him on hold, came back and said they'd write the WHOLE thing off!! They owe NOTHING!!!

I'm SO glad you posted this Claire! They were planning on paying the whole balance!!! You saved them $1400!!!
