Do you save towards your retirement now as being a 1 income family? And I mean you personally, not your dh. I have a retirement fund from when I worked but do not contribute towards it anymore now that I am not in the workforce. Kind of worries me. Do you think that once excess debt is paid off, you take a certain amount and start doing that or is just a high interest savings account good?
What is your opinion?

I have a Roth IRA that I have had since I was 23. I have maxed it out every year since I opened it. I actually fund mine before my husband's IRA since he has a retirement program at work. Anything left over goes towards a mutual fund in both of our names and his Roth.

I am a SAHM too.

When I left my job, I had to roll over my pension into an IRA. I am currently not contributing to it because we are paying off CC. We do pay into dh's 403B every month, his work already pays in and on top of that, they match what he puts in, we can't pass that deal up!
I plan on paying into my IRA once CC is paid off (in a couple of years, unfortunately). I don't plan on returing to work for another 4-5 years, once kids are in school.
I feel blessed to have an IRA at all, and I have 30 years before I retire, god willing.

When I was working I had a retirement fund that my employer matched. It was fantastic. DH has quite a retirement fund set up as well. When I return to work full time (probably in a few years) I will set it up again. There is no way that we could contribute to another savings account at this point.

Not in my name specifically, but we contribute more than enough to our investments for both of us.

Oh .. the miracle of compound interest. You may be surprised one day that your retirement fund is larger than your dh's! You don't even have to add to it if you started early enough and leave it there until retirement. Just check with a professional to make sure it's invested well and diversified.
