ok my grandfather passed away in august and i'm in his will well the exucutors(2 of my uncles) met with the accountant and the attorney and found that we will have to pay the irs 48% in taxes so my grandfathers wife offered to take what ever she could thru the marital exemption and then gift all of us a portion each year so we could all avoid the high taxes.. so i got a check for $5000.00 on friday whoo hoo we really could use money right now..(the rest has to go thru the estate and once the irs does its audit it will be dispersed at that time) so i was able to accomplish alot with this wonderful windfall...
1. caught up my mortgage so we don't have to stay on this repayment plan(double payments ugg)
2. paid off my fuel acct(for the house)
3. paid off my sister(she loaned me the plain ticket money for the funeral)
4. paid all our regular bills thru january(dh is off until after the first of the year so money is real low)
5. paid off a credit card
6. paid off the remainder of a small loan
7. paid of the dentist and pediatricians offices!!!

so my money went a long ways and i still have $600.00 for savings
maybe there is a light at the end of our tunnel a small one anyway!! so it has turned into a wonderful holiday for me not so much stressing about money that won't be there cause dh is off work..

That is so wonderful. I can't believe the amount of taxes you would have to pay on that. It is crazy! My mom is going to get some money from an inhertance in a few months, but it is small enough that she won't have to pay taxes on it.

That is great- the $ went a long way and to have some left over that is even better

thanks so much we do have alot of other bills to pay on but we always are short so we need an emergency fund so this helps and we can now use whatever we get at tax time to pay off more stuff instead of paying some of the stuff i did.. so that is huge for us....i did write a check to our school counseler last night she heads our school foundation to help kids in our community thru out school it was not a ton but i know if i could not get my child shoes clothes presents they will do it for you to help out so it was important to me to give a little. i hope everyone is as blessed as we have been this christmas..
