How many of us have State income taxes? I was just curious. We used to have one when we lived in Georgia and, when we moved to Florida, it was one of the definite pluses that we would not have a state income tax.

We have higher taxes other ways, but we are still taxed at a lower rate than in Georgia.

I live in AL and we do!

When i worked in Tn, they have no state taxes, so they didn't take any out of my check.

At tax time, i had to pay taxes in AL plus a pentaly for not paying during the year, even though the company i worked at wouldn't/couldn't tax taxes out!

We do in Michigan, but lots of folks get out of it by claiming Florida as their legal residence. My dad does that as he winters in Florida every year. We have lots of "snowbirds" here.

Ruthie,
I'm from Alabama, too. Yes, we have to pay state income taxes. When I worked full-time, I wound up having to have an additional amount withheld from my paycheck so we wouldn't owe or owe too much at tax time!

I'm in Texas - no state income tax here but we pay a lot for property taxes instead.

CT has an income tax. It was started in the late '80s. So I've never felt the luxery of not having it come out of my check. I always get a pretty good refund though.

MN does. I think our taxes are fairly high compared to other states.
